Everybody knows that Mondays are the most tragically depressing of days, and the only thing that can possibly cheer you up is having new nails for the week ahead. It was this fact of life that must have driven me to throw this little selection of nail treats into my Boots basket yesterday, despite only popping in for hair dye (as a side note, don’t you hate it when you accidentally dye your top layers ginger and leave the rest blonde? I know I do…)
In quite a wild move, I decided to buy these Kiss false nails instead of my usual Boots ones. This means my nails are now oval as opposed to square – did you make any decisions as life changing as this over your weekends? No, didn’t think so. I also couldn’t resist picking up one of the new Sequin Effect polishes from Barry M as I haven’t tried them yet, and then of course I needed to buy a matching base coat too.
I REALLY like these Kiss false nails. The selection of sizes is good, they seem to be of good quality and the glue is lethal enough that when I spilt a drop on my leg my trousers very nearly had to be surgically removed from my skin. I also definitely think I prefer the oval shape. I suffer from a medical condition called Sausage Fingers (don’t worry, I’ll be starting a collection soon that you can all donate to), and find that these certainly elongate my fingers more than the square-tipped nails do.
I wish I could blame these terribly painted nails on having the hangover shakes, but I was sober all weekend. I’m just a failure.
Anyone for a game of Twister? I’m not really in love with this final look. The primary colours of the sequins remind me a bit of a clown’s pants (not sure why, maybe there’s a disturbing incident at the circus that I’m repressing). The texture’s also quite horrible, very gritty. The sequins are supposed to give a ‘3D effect’ according to Barry M’s website, but I’m not sure whether that’s just a bit of a cop-out to trick us into thinking it’s supposed to be like this. A top coat would probably help a lot, but I couldn’t be bothered looking for mine just couldn’t find mine at the time. I think I would be much more fond of this polish if I ‘d just added it to the tips, or made a statement nail from it. It also might look better without the strong white base coat.
All in all, I don’t hate the polish, but the colours and finish of this particular shade aren’t really to my taste.
