Good afternoon you foxy devils. Today, the lovely Zoe Georgina has tagged us to do the ‘Makeup Firsts and Fails’ post, where you reflect on your early experiences with different products and the disasters that you had with them. As a person who generally walks through life from one disaster to another, I thought I’d step up to the plate with this one and share some of my memories.
Foundation & Concealer
Considering that now I won’t even go to the shop without at least a bit of mascara on (don’t judge me, you never know when you might bump into Henry Cavill), it’s strange to think that I didn’t really start wearing makeup until I was about 13 or 14. Skin products were definitely the first thing I think I tried my hand at. I never had particularly bad skin as a teenager, but I had the most sallow skin in the world – probably something to do with my diet which consisted exclusively of Findus Crispy Pancakes and potato smiley faces – so it definitely needed evening out and brightening up a bit.
I actually used to match my foundation to my real skin tone, which is somewhere between shades ‘Ivory’ and ‘Dead for Three Days’, and so because I wasn’t clever enough to use anything as complex as blusher or bronzer, I unfortunately still looked like an absolute mess. I look back at photos of this time and think “well, no wonder you didn’t have a boyfriend you ghosty twit”.
Mascara & Eyeliner
The eye products definitely followed not long after the skin, though again I was quite slow catching onto what I should be doing. I think I actually, and I feel a bit sick even writing this, owned a clear mascara. CLEAR. MASCARA. Let’s all just try to move on with our lives.
Like most girls (and some boys) of our generation, I definitely got a bit eyeliner happy at around the age of 15. Again, I didn’t quite get what the point of it was. Outline my eyes, you say? Add definition? Make my eyes appear larger and the natural colour pop? No thanks, I’ll just take this Miss Sporty kohl pencil and rub that aaaaaaall along my waterline until I look like an Anime character. Now that’s a great look.
Lipgloss
Lipgloss became a staple part of my makeup bag/life very quickly and, even though lipstick is much more fashionable these days, I still can’t resist a good gloss to get me through the day. I don’t recall any major lipgloss fails, but it is one of those products that will constantly have its problems and to be honest it still mugs me off to this day. Not only does my hair regularly get stuck to my lips on windy days, but I recently had a bug fly straight into my lips and get stuck there too. Say it with me, ‘errrrrrrgh’.
And so there concludes my brief skip down the memory lane of makeup. If anyone fancies sharing their mishaps, then I tag:
Michelle from Beauty Life Michelle
Vickie from Stones Got Style
Laura from Love and Liquor
Liza from Glam Beautys
Laura from Tease Flutter Pout
Love it 🙂
Cannot wait to sink my teeth into this one! Thank you for tagging me.
