Moisturiser is something that I have a massive love-hate relationship with. On the one hand, my skin resembles a St Moriz drenched freckled lizard that is permanently dry and in need of a boost. Because of this, I am constantly on the search for the perfect moisturiser (much like Claire and her mascara quest). I’ve never quite found one that leaves my skin feeling soft for longer than a few hours and this is why I secretly throw tantrums when a new moisturiser doesn’t do what it promises. I’ve tried everything from Chanel to E45 and nothing has impressed me overly much.
However, Nivea products come very close to being the holy grail of soft skin. I’ve always loved the smell because it reminds me of holidays in South Africa as a child, so this started off as being the main reason why I bought creams from Nivea. But I have to say; the results are actually very good. I’m a staunch believer in their simple ‘Rich Nourishing’ lotion for dry skin, which is my standard before-bed cream. I’ve been a bit wild recently and invested in their ‘Irresistibly Smooth’ lotion as well, which is a lot lighter and excellent to use in the day (in fact, I really recommend this body moisturiser – it absorbs very quickly too!). When I saw that they’d brought out an in-shower moisturiser however, things got very exciting.
For those who haven’t used an in-shower moisturiser before, it works as a kind of hair conditioner for your skin. You apply it after cleansing and then rinse it off, which is mega convenient for those of us who don’t have time to faff about with body lotion in the morning. I’ve used the Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner before and was really impressed with the results. The Lush version smells of strawberry jam and it feels really luxurious after a shower or a bath. Comparing the Nivea In-Shower Body Moisturiser with the Lush product, I have to admit that it doesn’t quite match the soft skin feeling Lush gave. Saying that, my skin did feel soft and nourished after using the Nivea product – just not quite as much as after Ro’s Argan Conditioner.
With a bit of perspective though, the Lush product contains Argan oil and lots of other lovely organic ingredients. It is also a lot more expensive, at £15.50 for a 225g pot. The Nivea in-shower moisturiser is £5.65 for 500ml, so it is much more budget friendly. For the price and the size, I’d say that Nivea have brought out a body conditioner that is more accessible and better for everyday use. With that in mind, I’d give Nivea a big thumbs up and will definitely be adding the In-Shower Body Moisturiser to my daily routine. It also comes in a version for normal skin, for all you normal skinned weirdos out there (I’m not bitter at all…).
