I have to admit that nobody has ever grabbed me in the street and yelled ‘your makeup is flawless, the effect is breathtaking – tell me immediately what products you use!’ But then, nobody ever asked Katie Price to get into the world of fiction and start releasing books, but that happened and so this is too.
Here is a little run-through of the makeup that I slather on my face every day.
Foundation: Rimmel London Match Perfection
I’ve been using this foundation for quite a few years now and really can’t fault it much at all. Initially I used the cream gel formula that came in the little pot – I loved the coverage it provided and its staying power, but once I tried to liquid bottle version I preferred the slightly heavier coverage and so stuck with that.
I think the cream gel version might have actually been discontinued now as I can’t find it on the Boots website; clearly my buying habits have a big impact on the world of cosmetics.
I own two shades: 103 ‘True Ivory’ and 200 ‘Soft Beige’. 103 is unfortunately the closest to my natural skin tone (it is a poorly-kept secret that I am the ultimate Pale Gail), while 200 is the one which suits me best when I have my life together and have actually been bothered to tan. On most days I’ve started to mix the two together – about half a pump of each – for those middley days.
Concealer: Rimmel London Match Perfection
I’m a fan of using matching foundation and concealer and so have used this religiously the last couple of years too. I find it good for both under the eye and on blemishes. It’s meant to be a 2-in-1 concealer and highlighter; I wouldn’t say it particularly works as a highlighter but I’m not miffed enough to write an angry letter about it or anything.
Powder: Collection 2000
Powder is the one thing I will never care about spending a decent amount of money on. Set my foundation, stop my nose looking shiny enough for people to check their reflection in, and I’m pretty much happy. Except I hate how quickly they smash and end up looking like the car-crash-in-a-pot that you can see in the above photo.
Bronzer: Bourjois Paris ‘Delice de Poudre’
Alright I know it’s French, but is there really any need for that may French words on the packaging? I can’t tell you whether that’s the name of the product or the shade (the only thing I remember from GCSE French is how to say ‘ham sandwich’ and ‘where is the library’). What I can tell you is that this bronzer is brilliant. On particularly Pale Gail days, I’ll use a light dusting all over my face; but it’s also good for building up under the cheekbones to add a bit of definition.
Contouring is something I’d like to try out a bit more, though I have slight concerns about it – mainly, what if I look all great and contoured during the day and then when I take my makeup off I look like I’ve gained about three stone, all on my cheeks?
Mascara: Benefit ‘They’re Real’

Eyebrows: Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil
Lauren really is the Stylingo expert in eyebrows, but I also dabble in the occasional Scouse Brow. While I have been known to go quite monstrously large on a night out (it’s dark in clubs; you need massive eyebrows so that people know what emotion you’re expressing), during the day I just fill them in a bit and try to give them sort of shape.
I use the dark brown shade, which I’m sure some would say is too dark for my natural colouring – but to these people I say: who wants to look natural?! Okay, a lot of people do, but I’m not one of them. Viva la fake.
Lipgloss: Rimmel London Apocalips
I think there is hardly anything left to say on Apocalips that hasn’t already been covered on almost every other beauty blog. I have to admit that I’m not QUITE as wowed by these as I know a lot of people are – yes it goes on really well, is a nice midway point between gloss and lipstick and has good lasting power. But I do find that it goes a little flakey and upon re-application can go on a bit unevenly. With this being said, however, I’m still a fan and the Nude Eclipse is my ideal kind of daytime shade.
The Final Result
Most days I end up looking a little something like this:
If I wear eyeliner in the day then I use my recently discovered Collection 2000 Extreme 24-Hour Tip Liner. It’s a pen-like eyeliner that even idiots like myself can use. However, recent development of hayfever (I am 22; why am I suddenly allergic to the earth?!) has meant that I’m sporting a barer eye these days.
Are any of these products in your everyday makeup bag? Do you have anything that you think I’m missing?
* I’m very sorry for this lie, but I have to force you to come here somehow, don’t I?
Love this: I like a nosey at people’s everyday faces. You have beautiful eyes!
Aw, thank you 🙂 I usually think I have horribly sunken-in eyes with a noticeable lack of eyelid – but at least I save money on eyeshadow 😉 xx
