What’s In My Overnight Makeup Bag

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that my everyday makeup bag is roughly the size of the average holdall, and contains about thirteen varieties of every product. This sort of mess is obviously not travel-friendly, and so I also have a mini makeup bag which I use whenever I go anywhere for one night. It’s so teeny that it forces me to create a capsule makeup wardrobe so to speak, and only my must-have products make the cut. It’s really quite an exciting challenge, no doubt it will be appear on The Cube or I’m A Celebrity soon enough.

ANYWAY, here are my capsule wardrobe products that need to come away with me:

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation £29.50 – I first bought this foundation in July last year, and it made me a complete convert to high-end foundation. I flitted away from it briefly at the start of the year when I was skint and needed to buy something drugstore so I could actually afford to eat that month – but clearly my priorities were all wrong, and I soon came running back to my holy grail. You can read my Lancome Teint Idole review for full deets, but basically this is just the best thing since sliced bread. But even better, because it won’t give you bloat.

Seventeen Define and Conquer Contour Kit £5.99 – I’ve used quite a few different products for contouring over the years, but my current favourite and the one I use most days is this Seventeen duo compact. I mainly love it for the highlighter, which is matte (unlike most others) so you can use it on any part of the face without worrying about creating shimmer in weird places. Clarins Be Long Mascara £21 – I was in need of a new mascara recently and decided to give this one a go when I saw it for just £15 at a trade show (and it came as part of a gift set, which included the above makeup bag – score). I hadn’t tried any Clarins makeup before this, but definitely  need to try some more as this is AMAZING. It’s a hundred per cent my sort of mascara, with a defined, plastic brush that’s perfect for separating and defining lashes. It’s quite a wet mascara formulation, similar to They’re Real – so people who aren’t a fan of that and how tricky it can be to remove might not like this. Jica Lash Extensions Fibres £13.95 – The most exciting thing in my overnight makeup bag is definitely this new beauty. It contains fibres that you put on top of your normal mascara to make lashes even longer – and my god, the hype is real. I’ll no doubt have a full review of this coming up soon, so keep your beady (and stubby-lashed) eyes peeled!

Seventeen Stay Time Concealer £4.49 – Everyone raves about the Collection concealer, but in my opinion this one is just as good and budget-friendly too. I have this in two shades, but in the capsule makeup wardrobe challenge I usually just take the lightest one away with me and apply it before foundation on blemishes to avoid it highlighting them.

MAC Creme Cup Lipstick £15.50 – Finally, no makeup bag, however small, is complete without a MAC lipstick. Creme Cup is the perfect everyday pinky-nude that never fails to brighten up my face when I wear it. I have to be honest and state that at any one time I do also have at least eight different lip products floating around my handbag, so if this ever didn’t quite float my boat I wouldn’t exactly be stuck for other options. But when are you not in the mood for MAC, really?
