I’ve written before about how as a blogger, it can feel a bit as if everything goes on in London. Us in the Midlands and beyond can be left in a bit of a desolate blogging wasteland, with nothing but short vowel sounds and pie for company. Thankfully though, this really seems to be changing over the past year or so, and recently there has been a real buzz of activity in Birmingham. I’ve attended some fabulous events lately (and had to turn down a few too – damn you, employment), and two that I wanted to share with y’all was Style Birmingham Live and a lingerie event at Next in the Bullring.
Style Birmingham Live 2015
First up, it was my first time attending Style Birmingham, but I’ll definitely be paying another visit next year. The catwalk show took place in the Gas Hall Museum in the city centre, which is an already stunning venue that was transformed into a fashion theatre for the weekend.
The show very aptly began with an amazing Peaky Blinders-themed opening (side note: if all men could dress like Thomas Shelby then that would be swell), and then went on to showcase the autumn/winter collections of key highstreet brands. The likes of Topshop, Lipsy and M&S all featured, and it was so inspiring to see how affordable pieces can be put together to create such chic looks. No, I’m not sure where the big twig crown was from, but yes, I do want it.
The Perfect Bra with Next
Last week I was invited along to an event showcasing the lingerie on offer at Next. I actually didn’t know that Next had such a comprehensive lingerie line, but their selection is vast and, most importantly, HAWT. I pored over the latest lingerie catalogue over prosecco and sushi, before having my first ever bra fitting. Yes, you read that right – my first. Ever. Bra. Fitting.
Why hadn’t I been fitted before? Well, I think that a part of me thought it might be really awkward having a stranger feel me up, and a part of me worried I would be told that my boobs are even smaller than I think they are, and I actually belong in a vest. However, I needn’t have ever put it off – first of all, there was no groping of any kind. The lovely women at Next can tell just by looking at you in your everyday bra and having a little grab of the band whether you’re wearing the right size or not. I was shocked to find out that I actually am in the right size, though she did point out that the band was too loose due to the elastic saying ‘au revoir’ a while ago. I pretended to be surprised, but really it’s no secret to me that ALL my Primark underwear needs to be binned and I’m badly in need of an underwear overhaul.
My lovely assistant (I sound like magician) then brought me over a variety of styles to try out to see what I liked, and I was then kindly gifted with the set of my choice. For those perverts people who are interested, I opted for the Black Mimi Lace Wow Bra and matching thong. This bra is insanely comfortable and adds the boost that I need, so for only £14 I’ll definitely be stocking up in some other colours.
A big thank you to the PRs who invited me to both of these events! I hope you enjoyed reading about them – please let me know in the comments if you did.
high street catwalk sounds fun and I so need to go bra fitting, never done it either. Glad I wasnt the only one who worried about being touched indecently!
