It’s been a while since I’ve been properly excited about a new makeup launch, but as soon as I heard about the NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks, I was practically giddy. First of all, I really like the formula of liquid lipsticks. Secondly, these promise a matte finish. And thirdly, and most essentially, it’s a range comprising entirely of nude shades. Hello, is this heaven?! After stalking a lot of swatches online, I placed my order for three of the NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks I thought I’d like most, and picked them up from my local Boots last week.
I opted for the NYX Lingerie shades of Lace Detail, Honeymoon and Embellishment. I opted for these three as they were some of the cooler shades in the 12-strong range, which suit me better than warm orange-toned nudes. Lace Detail is the most classically nude shade of the three I bought, with a pink tint that prevents it from being too ‘foundation lip’-like. Although I hate the phrase, this for me is very much a ‘my lips but better’ shade, with the cool undertones flattering my skin colour. Honeymoon is a grey-toned brown, and reminds me of MAC’s ‘Stone’. It’s quite a bold colour, and I can see that it wouldn’t be for everyone, but I love how striking it is. Finally, Embellishment is quite a dusky, purple-toned nude that’s very Kylie Jenner circa the ‘I’m just really good at makeup and haven’t had fillers’ year. Y’all know.
So, they LOOK beautiful, but how do they actually apply?
Thankfully, when you first apply the NYX Lingerie Lipsticks, they give a good slick of colour straight away. I think because of how pigmented they are, you do have to be quite precise in your application otherwise you could end up in a total mess. Unlike with a lipgloss, I definitely couldn’t just grab this out of my handbag and re-apply on the go – a mirror is essential.
The formula dries quite quickly to a perfectly matte finish. The wear time so far for me seems to be about 3-4 hours – less so if you’re eating anything oily or greasy – and when it does wear away, it’s not entirely even. The middle of your lips goes first, leaving a not-very-attractive outline. With Lace Detail, it’s so close to my own lip colour that this isn’t noticeable at all, but it’s much more prominent with Honeymoon and Embellishment. I’d read a review saying that it’s not really possible to top the colour up, but I’ve personally found this fine. While it doesn’t look quite as flawless as when applied fresh, you can kind of ‘fill in’ the patchy areas to extend wear time. Because it does involve quite regularly checking to make sure you don’t look like a chapped idiot though, I wouldn’t really risk Honeymoon or Embellishment as daytime shades.
Overall though, I do really love the NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks. The finish and the shade range are beeeeautiful, and for the price they’re really amazing. Oh, I haven’t mentioned the price you say? Well, you can pick these up for just £6.50 each. YEAH, YOU ‘EARD. So if you’ve always fancied the famous nude MAC shades of Velvet Teddy, Soar, Stone etc, but don’t fancy their £15.50 price tag, the NYX Lingerie range can give you the look for a lot less. The NYX Lingerie range caught my eye as I love a nude too! I’ve read reviews that say they are streaky and don’t last as long as other brands with dupe colours such as Jeffree Star. Your review has been super useful in that it has backed all that up and as I’m looking for a nude to wear in the day, I think I’m going to suck it up and pay for a JS one! These sound like they would be good to take on a night out where you’re likely to lose it as they’re such great value!

I’m waiting for these to be launched here in Canada…or maybe they have been launched but my local drugstores are not displaying them yet. I love the NYX Suede lip cream so I have high hopes for these too!

When I first heard of these I thought embellished was going to be so much more pink! (the Nyx online picture is deceiving!) Unfortunately it wears horribly on me, but lace detail looks like a winner! These are definitely better for a night out rather than an everyday application.

Ah! I love how you’ve got 3 shades I didn’t get though I am now thinking I may invest in Embellishment as a brave lip choice.
