E.L.F. Nail Polish in ‘Desert Haze’ – Review

We wrote on Thursday about our big haul of Elf makeup. I was SO excited to try out all of the products and started off with this nail varnish. I chose the shade ‘Desert Haze’, which looked on the website to be a very milky, nude colour.

I’m a huge fan of neutral colours for nails – in fact, for everything (I’m going to write a book about my personal style preferences and its title will be Fifty Shades of Beige)(and it will be better than Fifty Shades of Grey, not that that’s difficult). My ultimate nude nail varnish love is Barry M’s ‘Lychee’ from the Gelly range and, to be honest, I don’t think anything is ever going to beat it. But I believe in giving everything a fair go so was really excited to try out this colour. Once it arrived I was a bit dubious about how it would be, seeing as the bottle looks considerably darker than shown on the website – as you can see:

It actually looked more like a mushroomy Barry M shade I have (that, come to think of it, may actually be called Mushroom…) that I really don’t like on my nails, so I was a bit apprehensive.

Thankfully, I’m really happy with how the colour turned out. I’m pretty WUBBISH at describing colours, but I’m going to put my neck on the line and say it’s a mink.

It applied really nicely; two coats were plenty for full opacity, and there weren’t any problems with streaking. I won’t really be able to comment on the chipping side of things because I wear false nails that polishes never tend to chip on, but the consistency seemed thick enough that I don’t think it would be a major problem.

Overall this is a lovely, classic shade that I’m sure I’ll get a lot of wear out of. I like experimenting with my nail colour, but sometimes you just want to do something basic and this will join Lychee as one of my regular neutrals. I’d also like to see how it looks with one of my glitter polishes as a topcoat (my guess: tacky fabulous, just how I like it). For £2.50 the Elf polishes seem well worth the money. The colour difference between online and real life would make me slightly wary of choosing a shade I wasn’t sure of, but if I place an order with them again then I wouldn’t hesitate to throw a few easy colours into the basket.

Have you tried Elf nail polishes? What did you think?
