Primark False Eyelashes in ‘Sultry’ | Review

Primark Lashes 4Two of my main loves in life: Primark and false eyelashes. So I was beyond shocked when I found out that Primark are now selling their own range of lashes that I knew nothing about. Ever the dedicated blogger, I picked up a couple of pairs on my last trip to town and gave them a whirl at the weekend. There a few variations to choose from; I bought the above ‘Sultry Lashes’ as well as a pair of ‘Natural Lashes’ (I know this doesn’t sound like me, I think know I’m getting old and boring). The Sultry Lashes, believe it or not, weren’t the longest or thickest ones available so those of you who are dedicated to the proper Camel Lash might want to give the next size up a try. These are perfect for me though, as I always prefer slightly feathery false eyelashes, and ones that criss-cross over like this are a particular fave.

I’m definitely not snobby when it comes to lashes – although we all accept that Eylure are the metaphorical dog’s cojones, at a fiver a go they get mighty pricey. I therefore dabble quite a lot in cheaper alternatives from brands such as Brit Rocks which retail more around the £3 mark. These Primark ones though were just £1. Yes you read that right – ONE ENGLISH POUND STERLING. This is unbelievably cheap and so to be honest, I wasn’t expecting a huge amount from them. And guess what, dear readers and strange people of the world? I was so pleasantly surprised!

Tell-tale signs of cheaper lashes usually include a very thick, plasticky band and a very shiny finish. These factors are both pleasingly absent from the Primark lashes. The band is nice and thin, making them easy to glue down, and the lashes themselves are as feathery and flexible as more expensive brands. The lashes came with their own adhesive, but I think it’s the glue that often lets cheaper makes down. I shunned the included bottle in favour of my big bottle of Eylure glue, which I really recommend buying if you’re a regular lash wearer. Just don’t let any idiot pals like Lauren near it – the distress that I felt when she shattered my bottle by dropping it on the apartment floor in Kavos last year is something I’ve never quite got over (much like the fact that we even went to Kavos, but again that’s me being old and boring).

Outfit of the Day: Primark Quilted Tshirt & Leather Skater Skirt

DSCN2793

Hello friends and strangers!

This is just a little OOTD post to let you all see my bank holiday outfit, which was hastily picked off my floordrobe after spending hours agonising what to wear with this cream Primark quilted tshirt (I think it was £8, I WUV IT)! I ended up going for my leather look skater skirt, which is from Missguided. I used the term leather VERY loosely, the skirt is made out of what me and Claire can only describe as swimming costume material.

I paired with Claire’s BEAUTIFUL Jeffery Campbell dupe heels, which are from ebay and are my favourite things in the entire world (must actually get my own and stop skanking from my dear blonde house pal).

You can’t really see my earrings, but they were gold spikey triangles (surprise, surprise) from Primark (yet again, surprise surprise!).

I’m not sure why I look so hunch back in this photo but in the words of Drizzy, you only live once and if that means being a bit hunched, then so be it.

What do you all think of this little monochrome outfit?

Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butters | Review

Revlon Lip Butters 1As I’ve stated probably more times than is necessary (and definitely more times than is attractive), my lips get dry quite easily and so lipsticks can often drag or look a bit cakey after a few applications. So while I was on the hunt for a new lip product this weekend, I decided to give Revlon’s much-loved Lip Butters a go. These are known for being smooth, hydrating alternatives to traditional lipsticks, so I thought they could be perfect for my flaky needs.

The Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butters usually retail at £7.99 each, which I think is a leeeeeedle bit pricey for a ‘buttery balm’, but seeing them on offer at 2 for £10 meant that I obviously had to get two. I chose shades 040 Red Velvet and  047 Pink Lemonade, which is one of the newer colours.

Revlon Lip Butters 2Red Velvet is a nice deep red, which I thought would be brilliant as we get into Autumn, both for nights out and during the day if I’m feeling a bit dramatic. Pink Lemonade is the sort of colour I’m always naturally drawn towards; a pale peachy-pink that’s perfect for everyday wear.

So, how did they turn out?

040 Red Velvet

Revlon Lip Butter RedThe texture of the Lip Butters is lovely – they glide on smoothly, just like a balm. The colour pay off of Red Velvet after one application is pretty good, though you definitely need a couple of layers to get something near the colour in the tube. As you can see from the photo, it’s difficult to get the proper build up of colour that you get with a normal lipstick. It’s much more sheer, so slides around on the lip rather than settling as a lipstick does, making it a bit messier to apply than I would have expected. If you like your reds to have a matte finish then this isn’t really for you, as even with blotting it doesn’t really lose its sheeny finish.

047 Pink Lemonade

Revlon Lip Butter PinkOne swipe of Pink Lemonade does practically nothing to your lips – it literally just feels like you’ve applied some lip balm. Again, you need a couple of layers to start to see proper pay off from this very sheer lip product. Once you’ve applied it a bit thicker though, the texture and finish of this are lovely. Lips feel hydrated and smooth, with no possibility of dragging and drying out. The finish is perfect; somewhere between a gloss and a lipstick, it actually reminds me of the Cremesheen finish of my beloved MAC Creme d’Nude.

Overall, I do like both of these products. The Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butters are the sort of hybrid products that have been gaining a lot of popularity over the last year or so; along with Apocalips and Babylips, they’re aiming to give us the best qualities of lipsticks, glosses and balms in one product. From a personal point of view, I think the Lip Butter texture definitely works better in the paler shades, where the sheerness is less of an issue.

Have you tried Revlon’s Lip Butters? What did you think?

Benefit Primping With The Stars: Review

Good morning and happy Sunday to one and all!

I’m back on my makeup reviewing hype and I am VERY excited about it. I’ve been having some vonderful chats on Twitter with you all about making some makeup changes in my life (and we all know how important these changes are…), so I thought I would do a little review on something that I have been loving a lot recently.

1081662_10152383178302565_2076382288_n

One of my best friends from uni (combined with her boyfriend, who is also a good friend) bought me this Benefit set for my birthday and I have to say how HUGELY excited I was when I opened the wrapping. I’m a big Benefit fan, I know some people are not quite as keen on it as some products can be seen as a bit ‘gimmicky’. But I’m quite a gimmick fan and the packaging makes me literally want to die with happiness inside. I had their smokey eyes palette for a long time when I was a bit younger and I still maintain that it has been my favourite eye kit to date.

The Priming With The Stars kit has a lot of the products I have wanted to try but haven’t been able to afford recently, so I love the fact that I could give these a whirl FOR FREE, and in smaller sizes so I can decide how I feel about them without having the big version (sorry about the terrible English in this sentence, my brain has fallen out).

1082720_10152383178372565_768560497_n

1. Stay Don’t Stray Eye Primer. 2. Pore Professional. 3. Some Kind of Gorgeous Foundation Faker. 4. Benetint. 5. Girl Meets Pearl Highlighter. 6. They’re Real Mascara.

So, what do I think of Benefit’s Primping With The Stars kit?

1. Stay Don’t Stray Eye Primer: I really like this primer. I’ve been loving eye primers recently, I find they keep my standard liquid eye liner flick in place without smudging. This one has a nice nude tint to it, so almost works as a concealer too.

2. Pore Professional: This is a kind of tinted primer and as far as primers go, I’m very impressed. I have very big pores and it really does reduce them significantly! It’s also tinted, which means it can be worn without makeup over the top.

3. Some Kind of Gorgeous: This is the only product that I’m not hugely keen on in this kit. It just doesn’t give the kind of coverage that I like – I love full coverage foundation and this is very, very light. For people who like a light foundation, this is great for a matte effect! I do like it, it’s just not heavy enough for me.

4. Benetint: I LOVE Benetint and I have for years and years. I like the rose colour for my lips and Posietint for my cheeks particularly, so I’ve been using this little one on my lips a lot recently. Not much more needs to be said, it is great.

5. Girl Meets Pearl: I love highlighters and this one is great. I’ve been using it on my brow bone and cupids bow mostly, because the blusher I’m using at the mo is quite shimmery, so I don’t want to look too disco-ball  like. Very impressed!

6. They’re Real Mascara: Everyone raves about this mascara and I was always a bit skeptical about it. I am no longer. This is amazing and I’m very very tempted to buy the full size when this runs out. BRILLIANT.

As a set, I’ve actually been keeping this in my handbag because it has a big mirror that’s useful if I’m doing my makeup on the train or bus! It’s also nice having a Benetint and mascara on me at all times, it reduces the panic in case you get invited to see Rihanna and have no makeup on you whatsoever.

My verdict? This kit is brilliant. I really recommend it for you gals who want to try some of Benefit’s most famous products without investing in the full ones. There is also a little booklet with handy tips, which is great if you are an idiot like I am.

Anyone else tried this kit? What do you reckon?

August Haul: Primark and New Look

Today I did something I have never done before: walked out of my hairdresser’s house and burst into tears. It is honestly the most upset I’ve been about my hair, and this is coming from the girl who had to go to her Year 11 Leavers’ Ball looking like Honey Boo Boo.

After having my weave re-sewn in today, I asked my hairdresser to trim an inch or so off the ends as they were looking a bit ratty – so please imagine my shock when I looked in the mirror and saw that what were my 18 inch hair extensions had now been cut into a bizarre long bob which is only about an inch longer than my natural hair.

I did the typically British thing of smiling brightly, saying thank you and commenting how healthy it looked, and then fled. I admit crying might have been a bit dramatic, but it dawned on me that since having extensions, long hair has become a bit of a security blanket for me. Suddenly being out with natural-length hair made me feel like a big naked weirdo – and who wants to feel like one of those?

After ringing a friend and explaining that I would be hiding in my house for a month, I received strict instructions to pull myself together, head into town and indulge in a bit of retail therapy. And so VOILA – that is what brings me to this post.

Primark

I was very excited to see that Primark have started introducing their Autumn/Winter stock in store. I might have massively slated the collection in my Primark A/W 2013 post, but since then I’ve actually had a change of heart about a lot of the key trends this season and so am much more willing to give things a go. Also, the sight of lots of black clothing really matched my post-hairdresser mood, which might explain why there is not a bright colour to be seen.

Haul 24th August 1Camis – both £5

People have been loving the Topshop camis lately, but to be honest I haven’t been very interested in them; I’m strangely broad shouldered for my petite frame, so thin-strapped camisoles have never been that flattering on me. But when I spied these Primark versions, I decided to try the black one on just to see. I was actually pleasantly surprised with how it looked, as well as the overall quality, so decided to snap up the plum colour too. They also had them in coral, nude and grey, and other stores might have other colours too. For almost a quarter of the price of the Topshop camis, these are brilliant value for money and I’m once again left scratching my head as to why people would choose the more expensive option when I see such little difference.

Haul 24th Aug 2Leather Quilted Skirt – £10 / Leather-Sleeved Tee – £4

Primark are all over the A/W leather trend right now, so if you’re not sure about it still and want to try a few cheap pieces then I’d definitely recommend taking  a look. This skirt stood out to me because of the quilted texture – texture is set to be really important this winter so it’s ticking a couple of boxes for only a tenner. I wasn’t sure about it when I tried it on, though. I don’t think a-line skirts are particularly the most flattering shape for me to begin with, and with this skirt I have the problem I have quite a lot of it being very fitted on my massive bootay and then a bit gapey at the back where my waist is smaller. I do think it will be a great staple piece though, plus on the mannequins it was paired with jumpers which would eliminate  my gaping waist problem. I’m going to try it with a few things in my wardrobe and decide its fate later.

I’m also a big fan of leather sleeves at the moment. I think PU trim can look a little tacky (especially in Primark, so sorry to say this but it’s true) but sleeves are a nice way of bringing in a little leathery edge. Primark have leather-sleeved skater dresses, jumpers and t-shirts so whatever your needs, you can have a leathery sleeve to match. I decided on the tee, and bought it 2 sizes bigger than normal with the idea of wearing it as a dress.

Haul 24th August 3Kimono – £7 / Cardigan – £10

Ah, be still my beating heart. I’ve been after a kimono for a while now so was extremely chuffed to find that one of the last couple of these in store was a size 10. NABBED. I love the colours and the oriental floral/bird print. They had a few other kimonos in in lighter colours, but as I have my eyes firmly set on Autumn I stuck to the dark version.

I saw this cardigan recently on one of Lily Melrose’s hauls and loved the way she styled it. In keeping with the textured trend, I think this fluffy dream will be great for adding a bit of variety to outfits during the transitional Autumn period. Plus I just have hella love for anything remotely fluffy or furry, and it is SO warm and cosy.

Haul 24th August 4Frilly Socks – £1.50 each / Ring – £1.50 / Tights – £2.50

I’ve recently bought some cut-out ankle boots (see below if you simply can’t wait) and so have been after a couple more pairs of frilly ankle socks to wear with them. I think the different colours peeking through will be – I dunno, cute/fun/interesting(?) – I just want it to happen god dammit. I also need to bring more gold rings into my life as I love my gold chains but have hardly any other gold jewellery, and who isn’t always in need of an extra pair of tights?

New Look & eBay

Haul August 25th 6

Haul August 24th 5Cut-Out Boots – £27.99 / Wood Heel Platform Boots – £14.99

Neither of these were bought today, but I thought I’d include them anyway. Shoes aren’t something I actually buy that often, but I’ve bought two new pairs recently. Cut-out boots are everywhere at the moment, and I opted for this New Look pair (bought via ASOS because I like to take maximum advantage of my free next-day delivery) as they’re a slightly more feminine and work-appropriate version compared to the clumpy biker boots. I plan to do a full post on these soon, included how to style them and where you can buy alternative versions!

The eBay shoes are quite possibly my favourite things ever. Brilliant dupes for the Jeffrey Campbell classics, they cost just £14.99 from this eBay seller and are some of the comfiest but highest shoes I own. I think these will be brilliant for so many different occasions and basically I just love them mega loads.

So, that concludes today’s haul post. I hope your bank holidays are all off to a better start than mine – if anybody needs me over the coming weeks, then as stated I shall now be hibernating until I can afford a new set of extensions. Cheerio.

New Look Festival Wishlist

There are 3 things that I think us Brits do well in the summer: endless enthusiasm for barbecues, dodgy sunburn marks, and music festivals. With V last weekend and Reading and Leeds this weekend, festival season is well and truly in full swing. So when the lovely people at New Look contacted us to see if we’d like to write a post around festival fashion, we couldn’t say no – firstly, who doesn’t love New Look?! We’ve been mega keen for their Evolution of Festival Fashion infographic (check it out if you haven’t seen it yet!) too. And secondly, we’ve been too poor to make it to any fezzies this year so have been creating up dream outfits in our minds almost daily anyway (is that sad? Probably. Do we care? NEIN).

Claire

New Look FestivalFloral Kimono / White Crop Top / Acid Wash Denim Hotpants / Across Body Double Zip Bag / Chunky Chain Necklace

I love all of the kimonos around at the moment, so decided to base my outfit around this sexual floral number. We all know that you don’t really feel the cold at festivals due to the ever-so-handy ‘cider jacket’ that you develop after several over-priced pints of orange fluid, but a cover-up’s still a good idea as the night wears on. Denim shorts are also a festival favourite, and OF COURSE I would team this outfit with a little white cropped tee – have I been wearing anything else this summer?

Bags at festivals need to be 100% practical to avoid any mishaps with pickpocket – or worse, portaloos. I’m sure we all remember the story of the girl who got her head stuck in the portaloo at Leeds Festival in 2009 after trying to retrieve her dropped bag, don’t we? DON’T WE?! (If you don’t, then here’s a reminder.) An across-the-boy bag with more zips than you think you can possibly need is therefore top of the essentials list – unless you too fancy earning yourself the name of ‘Poo Girl’ in the national press.

I’d finish this look with some chunky jewellery, a floral crown and a decent pair of wellies. Oh, and heaps of dry shampoo. I think I mainly love festivals because they give me a chance to be the unhygienic tramp I secretly long to be in my everyday life.

Lauren

Ah, festivals make me infinitely happy and I was lucky enough to pop to Wireless for the day earlier in the summer. While it was AMAHZING, it didn’t quite have the same excitement for me than a four day extravaganza getting muddy and looking crap. My past festival outfits have been beyond tragic and I really should have been a bit better at planning them at the time (they usually involved throwing things into a backpack an hour before we had to leave and wondering if there was still space for vodka). So, without further ado – here is what I’d have worn if I wasn’t a homeless girl living under a bridge a bit too poor to afford a fezzie this year.

Screen Shot 2013-08-22 at 14.42.46

Tenki Pink Flower Print Skirt | White Bandeau | Light Blue Washed Effect Denim Jacket | Black Gold Chain Wellies | Gold Leaf Headband | Fringe Back Pack

Skirts are a must for me when dancing about like a prat in a field. I was considering putting a playsuit onto the list but then thought about the portaloo horror and decided against it. Skirts mean that there are no unpleasant mishaps vis-a-vis getting stuck in your clothes and having to call strangers for help.

Glastonbury a few years ago was unbearably hot (an Irish man saved the day when I got sunstroke and bought me a bottle of water. I LOVE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU?!) and I didn’t even laugh with scorn at a girl walking around in her bra and pants. With this in mind, you should always be prepared to keep as cool as possible in the event that a Mexican heatwave attacks you like a half-crazed Mariachi band. Bandeaus are a good idea because it’s LIKE wearing a bra but ensures that nobody thinks you are a prostitute.

BUT, you don’t want to look like an actual prostitute. Cover up with a trusty denim jacket, you slut (…joking hunnays).

Wellies are a must and these New Look babies are GORGEY. I also love the backpack. BACKPACK?! I hear you saying. It’s not as impractical as you think, this naughty little number has draw strings that you can tie with complicated knots to ward off pickpockets.

Floral crowns are brilliant and I’m still sad that I don’t own one (it’s a bit late to get on that wagon now). If you’re a bit tired of seeing floral crowns everywhere though, this gold leaf headband is a beyyyooootiful alternative.

What do you all think about New Look’s festival fashion? And what are your essentials? And how would you feel if you too were branded ‘Poo Girl’?

Lush Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub & Ocean Salt Facial Scrub: Review

Lush Scrub Review
As a bit of a fake tan addict, scrubs are HUGELY essential to my weekly beauty routine. I’m usually a pair-of-exfoliating-gloves-from-Poundland kinda gal (and the tramp strikes again), but I figured it was time to get scrubbing serious about things. I have a full time job in a real industry, for goodness sake. It is no longer ok to be buying my beauty essentials for £1 (I say this as I remove my makeup with a £1 cotton pad).

I love Lush and there has only been one product I wasn’t happy with – the henna disaster that I blogged about here. I think that that may have been more to do with me not really understanding what henna is and also being a genuine idiot, however. So, these scrubs were something of an excitement for me and I was a genuine eager beaver to try them out. TO YOU I SAID GOOD DAY, DRY SKIN.

SO…lets start off with the Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub.

DSCN2744

It’s described as being a “fragrant blossom-scented sea salt scrub for your body and hair.” Smell-wise, it’s amazing as most Lush products are. It is also an exciting bright blue, which made me feel quite the fancy lady. The salt grains are quite fine and there are two ways that you can use the Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub. You can either use it on dry skin for more vigorous exfoliating OR you can use it in the shower, where I found that it lathered up a bit more. I tried both and I think I preferred using it in the shower – mainly because it meant I didn’t get salt all over my bathroom floor.

My verdict: I really love this product. It exfoliates well, although I would say that the more stubborn bits of tan were a bit more difficult to shift (I had to revert back to the gloves for those!). I think I’m going to use it when I just want light exfoliation during the week – it’s not harsh at all so I reckon could be used pretty regularly. Their claim about being able to use it in your hair I’m not so sure about. I did give it a go in the interest of blogging. It’s supposed to give volume (because of the salt), which I could kind of feel before I chucked on loads of conditioner and probably lost any volume that was present anyway.

Next up we have…the Ocean Salt Facial Scrub.

DSCN2743

I was really impressed with this bad boy as well. It’s apparently got loads of sea salt, organic limes and avocado butter to wrap it up in a wonderful package of cleaning, brightening and softening magic. It’s marketed as a face exfoliator but it can also be used on the body too. The salt grains are a lot bigger in the face scrub than the shower scrub and the smell isn’t *quite* as nice. Saying that, I’m more of a fan of flowery smells than fruity ones, so others might disagree.

My verdict: Excellent and an honour to our Queen and country. My skin felt SO amazing after using this. I suffer from skin that’s a bit uneven and looks royally crap without some kind of primer or makeup. But after the Ocean Salt facial scrub, it actually looked relatively normal! I would say that it’s a harsh exfoliator though – if you have very sensitive skin then this one probably isn’t the one for you. I have quite a sensitive lip/chin area and it stung a bit when I first used it – especially when I went at my exfoliating circles with brute force. Keep a gentle hand, my friends, when using this. It isn’t necessary to get too wild!

Friendly warning: try and not get either of these in your mouth. They are very salty.

Outfit of the Day: Neon Shorts and White Shirt.

Hello lovely ladies!
Claire and I hosted a house party at what we affectionately call the Bitch Shack (colloquially known as the shack of bitches) on Saturday in honour of my birthday. Obviously, it called for a new outfit and about 10 layers of St Moriz!
readyforthebeach

I have raved about these shorts since I bought them around two weeks ago and I’ve been a genuine eager beaver to wear them. They’re from Missguided and cost me the grand total of £19.99 – I believe they do a dress in the same print if you are interested and as eager for the floral neon as I am! It took me a while to figure out what to wear with it, but I finally decided on this creamy white blouse from Primark (£8) and this triangle/bunting style necklace that also happens to be from Primark (shock horror…it was £3 FYI!). I borrowed a pair of heels from Claire as I’d left the cream ones I wanted to wear in Birmingham and my outfit was well and truly done! I did my nails in a matte effect Models Own nail varnish and some nude lipstick to keep things from getting too wild.

I was vair vair happy with it actually – perhaps even one of my most favey outfits to date! The party was vair fun too – apart from when I smashed my bottle of Moet on the floor when someone told me they didn’t like Game of Thrones…

Outfit of the Day: Primark Floral Crown and Split Maxi

OOTN 17th AugustFloral Crown – Primark / Crop Tee & Maxi Skirt – Missguided / Necklace – Primark (old) / Shoes – eBay

Happy Sunday y’all. Here at Stylingo HQ we are both nursing quite ludicrous hangovers after throwing a house party last night in celebration of Lauren’s birthday (yes, ANOTHER celebration – the girl knows how to milk a birthday). We consider ourselves to be quite tip top hosts and this time even treated our guests to a mini-buffet from Iceland – needless to say, everyone was thrilled. There was also a lot of Kanye West and a lot of tequila, so all in all it was a successful night.

As you can see, I went pretty ‘out there’ for me. By which I mean I wore the exact same sort of outfit I’ve been wearing loads lately and a crazy blind pensioner could have predicted that I’d wear something like this. Ho hum!
