As you’ll know if you’ve read this blog for a while, one of my favourite things to do is find fun, new things to do around Birmingham and the West Midlands. Only twenty minutes away from me on the train, the UK’s second city is always my first port of call when I’m looking for something a little different to do at the weekend. Yes, the nightlife is amazing, but there’s actually a lot more on offer. If you’re a fellow local, or you’re staying in one of the many hotels in Birmingham and are looking for something a little bit more quirky to do than visit the usual bars and restaurants, I’ve got a brand new option for you: Lane 7 bowling.
Located in The Cube, Lane 7 is the latest place to jump on the ‘games for adults’ trend (think Ghetto Golf and the new ping pong bars that are springing up everywhere – NOT, ahem, ‘adult games’…) It’s a retro bowling alley that also offers arcade games, beer pong tables and a graffiti-decorated karaoke room. With cocktails, street food and plenty of Instagrammable photo opps, I knew it was next on my list of places to try.
James and I went along on a recent Sunday afternoon for a couple of games of bowling. There were a couple of other small groups and couples, but otherwise it was really quiet so we were able to take our time and enjoy a couple of drinks while we played. After our first game, I went to book another and the manager gave us our second game for free, which was a really nice touch!
After our second game (we don’t need to focus on things like who won – it’s the taking part that counts), we took our drinks into the bar area, ordered some food and played on some of the arcade games. It was a great way to while away a couple of hours on a lazy afternoon, and I think kids would enjoy it just as much as adults. From 7pm, Lane 7 is strictly over-18s only (which is probably for the best so I don’t traumatise any children who witness me doing karaoke), and I can’t wait to head back one evening to see what the atmosphere is like after dark.
I really couldn’t recommend Lane 7 bowling enough if you’re looking for something a little bit unique and fun to do in Birmingham. You can find out more about prices and book online on the Lane 7 website.
The spending money for this activity was gifted by Hotels.com, but all views are my own.
This place looks amazing!
