I remember that I used to be convinced that I would never be interested in skincare. Buying skincare products bored me, reading about skincare products bored me, and applying skincare products really bored me. I suppose my change in attitude came about as I got older and I realised that my imperfections couldn’t be blamed on teenage hormones anymore – if my skin looked shit, then it was probably actually MY fault. This sense of shame, combined with the idea that maybe it would be kind of nice if I didn’t look like an absolute troll without a shovel-load of foundation on my skin, has ignited a new passion for skincare in me.
After reading a lot of rave reviews, I decided that I needed to try a hot cloth cleanser. Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish seems to be the cult one in the beauty world, but there are plenty of other hot cloth cleansers around from Sanctuary Spa, No.7, and – dun dun dun – Soap and Glory. I would like to pretend that I based my decision on something credible such as the ingredients, but the truth is opted for the Soap and Glory offering because it was on offer in Boots for £6. But oh my. I am SO glad I did.
The Ultimelt comes with 100ml tube of creamy lotion and a cloth (not pictured because it’s soggy and eww). When I use it, I first dampen the cloth in hot water and then lay it over my face for a few seconds to open my pores. This was a little tip stolen from reviews I’ve read of other hot cloth cleansers, and I’m convinced it helps massively. After all, how can we expect to deep clean our pores if they’re closed?
After I’ve given my face this mini-steam, I massage the thick creamy formula into my skin. I pay particular attention to the area around my nose as this is where my pores are most visible, and also most visibly clogged. I usually leave it to work its magic for 30-60 seconds, and then wipe away with the cloth provided. Afterwards, my skin is left feeling super smooth, and more moisturised than it is after using other cleansers.
The most important thing to mention, though, is how much my skin has improved since using this for the last month. My blemishes have visibly reduced, and my pores are looking better than ever. Whether this is wholly due to the formula or whether the act of opening my pores and cleansing them properly for the first time in, er, 24 years is also helping is hard to tell – but whatever it is, it’s working.
I’ve seen a lot of people comment on how amazing this is at removing makeup, and it is – makeup kind of just melts off your face (ahh, suddenly the name makes sense). However, after using it to remove my makeup once, I realised how grubby the cloth was and decided it can’t be hygenic to use the same cloth for that everyday, even if you do wash it out. So I now remove my makeup first with a makeup wipe (boo hiss) and use The Ultimelt as a double cleanse product. If those aren’t the actions of a girl dedicated to not looking like a troll, then I don’t know what are.
The full price of this is £10 and I definitely say it’s worth every penny.
Have any of you tried Soap & Glory Ultimelt? What are your favourite cleansers?
Loooove the Ultimelt! Haven’t used it in ages, must grab it while it’s on offer! I’ve tried Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish too and I way prefer the Ultimelt!

I love S&G products but haven’t tried this yet! Great review, I’ll be picking this up for sure! xxx
Let me know how you find it if you do! xx
I was thinking about trying this product for a while and now I’m convinced 😉
If you’d like you could check out my new blog http://aaarabesque.blogspot.com – I’d be honored 😉
I definitely think you should 🙂 xx
I’ve been deliberating between this and Liz Earle’s version. This sounds like a great product and it’s a lot cheaper and it even includes the cloth so think I’m going to try this one out!
The price swung it for me too, and I haven’t been disappointed 🙂 Would still like to try the Liz Earle version later down the line to compare them, but this is great for now! xx
I’m currently using the Liz Earle cleanser and absolutely love it but don’t think I’ll be able to afford to keep going back to it so I’ll have to try this next! I love Soap and Glory anyway so I have no doubt it’s brill!

I have heard the Liz Earle one is a little pricey, though I would still love to try it 🙂 xx
Great review! I’ve been meaning to buy some more cleanse and polish but I’ll try this instead!

I’m a big fan, hope you like it 🙂 xx
I recently started using the Ultimelt because I was looking for a Cruelty Free cleanser and man oh man I love it! Like you though, I don’t like using it to take off my makeup. I do use the Soap and Glory makeup remover though (Drama Clean) and it’s excellent. It’s so good at removing all my makeup (even mascara!), and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling chemically like some makeup removers do. And then the Ultimelt ensures I get all of the makeup out of my pores, not just the surface. Defo a combo I would recommend!
YES I’m using a Soap & Glory 5 in 1 makeup remover (not sure if it’s the same one?) at the moment and it would be fab with this! xx
