Currently Watching: eBay Wishlist #3

eBay Wishlist 3In the words of Simply Red, ‘if you don’t know that I love eBay by now, you will never never never know me’ (pretty sure that’s how it goes anyway). As always, I’ve been keeping my beady eyes on lots of products, and here are my ultimate favourite things on my watching list at the moment:

1. Tiger Print Vest (£6.38) – tiger prints were popping up all over the show a couple of months ago, with H&M in particular embracing everyone’s favourite striped animal (obviously zebras are a close second). I love the tiger head emblazoned on the disc on this cami, and at less than £7 including postage, the fact that it’s not season appropriate bothers me as much as something that bothers me very little.

2. Finger Tip Rings (£2.58 for 5) – has anyone seen the film Interview with the Vampire where Tom Cruise uses a nifty thumb ring to slice open the veins of his victims? I know that scene wouldn’t usually scream ‘fashionista’ but these finger tip rings really remind me of that, in a good way. I would of course use my rings for good though, not evil.

3. ‘Laundry’ Sign (£5.95) – as you may know, Lauren and I recently moved into a new bachelorette pad. I think this would be great in the kitchen above our washing machine. Not only will it look stylish and chic, but there’s always a chance that we can lure some eligible men in and they’ll be forced to drop their pants (NO UNCLE ROGER, NOT YOU)

4. 3CE Lipsticks (£4.40 each) – a while ago I reviewed some 3CE lip pigments that were, in a word, dope. They seem to be a really good brand that have a strong focus on pigmentation and colour, so I’m intrigued by their range of lipsticks. 108 in particular looks right up my nude-lip-lovin’ street.

5. Decorative Birdcage (18.50) – another decor piece I’m lusting after for the new abode, this birdcage would look amazing with some candles or flowery bits in. Or maybe our golden skull Yorick that currently sits on top of our fireplace – no? Too weird?

What do you all think of these pieces? Anything that you’re loving on eBay at the moment?

Outfit of the Day: Shearling Denim Jacket

OOTD 19th N COllage 1Denim Aviator Jacket: eBay / Skater Dress: H&M / Wool Tights: Primark / Boots: New Look / Cross: Primark / Ring: Primark

Hey chicas! It occurred to me that I never really show any coats or jackets in my OOTDs, which is because I generally regard them to be a massive pain in the arse and cumbersome and outfit/life ruiners. But. I do like this jacket, so I thought I’d show it for once.

I bought it at the start of the year for around £15 from an eBay seller who had a job lot of them. It’s actually made by Denim Co, which is the brand behind Primark denim, so I’m not sure whether it was ever actually sold in store. It’s the warmest, cosiest thing in the world though, and I don’t even mind the fact that it makes me look bulky. Now that’s true love right there.

OOTD 19th N CollageKimono: Primark

Of course we’re all layering now it’s getting into chilly willy time, so this beaut kimono was worn underneath. I featured this in a Primark haul a few months back and I wear it more than is probably socially acceptable.

What do you all think of this outfit?

Outfit of the Day: How to Wear the Casual Jumpsuit

OOTD 18th N CollageJumpsuit: H&M (old) / Cardigan: Primark / Chain: eBay / Shoes: Primark

Okay, so you know how basically winter comes around and we all just wish we could wear our onesies to work? Well I have cracked how to do this without receiving a disciplinary – a jumpsuit! Of course this is only really a useful tip if you own this exact jumpsuit, which I bought from H&M about two years ago, and I accept that the chances of this are unlikely. Sorry then, can’t help you there.

I can brag, however, that this was one of my comfiest days at work in a long while. The jumpsuit is a loose fitting cotton material – so not exactly as warm as a onesie, but with the help of my current favey Primark cardigan, the chills were kept at bay. I’ve had these gold studded pumps around 18 months now but I still see them popping up in haul posts sometimes, so I think they’re the sort of Primark wonder that sometimes re-appear in store.

Oh, and these photos also give you a little update of the current state of Operation Grey Hair. As you can see,  a wee disaster mishap occurred where I accidentally dyed quite a bit of my hair purple. However, I think this just adds character. Yep. That’s what I’m saying.

What do you think of this OOTD?

eBay List October

Another month, another endless list of eBay delights!

Fedora Hat – £9.98
Fedoras are hugely in fashion this A/W, but they’re the sort of item I’m just not sure if a) I can pull off without looking like a try hard twit, and b) I would be brave enough to wear without the fear of a gust of wind tearing it away from me. For these reasons, I wouldn’t want to spend a lot of money on one, so this one coming in at under a tenner (with free P&P, HOLLA) is the perfect way to experiment with the trend.

Ring Display Hand – £3.95
I’m still on the fence as to whether this is cool or a bit tacky and creepy. Even if it’s the second, I still want it to be honest. My rings are currently stored in a variety of different jewellery and trinket boxes, but I think something like this is much more fun. It’s also nice to see jewellery actually displayed and used decoratively in a room.

Fur Gilet – £22.23
As we go into the colder months, my deep and passionate lurrrve for fur comes out in full force. Two fur coats, a fur hat and a new fur collar are simply not enough – I also need this fur gilet for those days when my body’s all chilly but my arms are all toasty.

Printed Shorts – £9.59
I know these are completely unseasonable, but I am in love with the paisley print on these shorts. I also think the warm hues make them kind of autumnal… um, right?

Poster – £6.49
I’ve had my eye on this for a while, and now that we’ve just moved into our new house I think I have a definite reason to buy it. Even if my life is more about drinking tea and falling asleep on the sofa these days…

What do you all think of this wishlist? What are you loving on eBay at the moment?

Skint Girls’ Guide to Shopping

tumblr_lypgfhxis91qfno3aIn the words of the philosophical genius and champion of the lady humps,  Fergie: ‘IF YOU AIN’T GOT NO MONEY TAKE YOUR BROKE ASS HOME.’

So… we’re safely at home. If you and your broke ass are too, then this post is for you. I’ve been meaning to write this for a while, as Lauren and I are staunch believers that being skint is no excuse to not go shopping. It’s an excuse to not pay your rent, yes, and definitely an excuse to get away with living off Flumps and tap water for a week – but to not go shopping? We think this is simply showing a lack of dedication to the shopping cause, and we have some handy tips to help you shop on a budget.

1. Go Global
I harp on about this quite a lot already, but the amount of bargains I have had delivered from China recently is mad – mad I tell you, mad.  Everything from false eyelashes and cosmetic storage, to jewellery and clothes can be found so much cheaper online if they’re being shipped from China. My main source for tracking down these bargains is, of course, eBay. As well as good dupes of UK high street pieces, there are also some really unique stores selling things you wouldn’t find here in the UK. Here is one seller that I’m particularly obsessed with at the mo – cow-print shorts? It can’t be me that thinks these are so wrong they’re right? Of course with international deliveries comes quite a long waiting period – usually around 2-3 weeks, though I’ve had some things turn up after just 9 days or so – but as long as you shop in advance then this isn’t too much of a problem.

2.Finding the highstreet on eBay
Of course, my next tip was going to have to involve eBay too. If you don’t fancy the long shipping period of international shopping, or are looking for some recognisable British high street brands then there are a couple of ways to hunt these down on eBay. Obviously, you have the auctions where you can find either second hand pieces (often only worn once so don’t be a snob, especially if you’re skinto) or the occasional BNWT (Brand New With Tags to any non-eBayers out there) gem. If you filter your search to ‘New’ only then you can have your page filled with brand new items at cheapy prices. Another great way to find cheap high street items on the site is by searching for ‘ex’ items. I don’t really know how these come to be sold by these sellers – something to do with them being manufacturers’ overs – but there are plenty of supposedly ex-Topshop and ex-ASOS items to be found. I’ve had one or two of these before and can confirm that they’ve seemed to be authentic, but at usually around a third of what you would expect to pay for them in the shop. BARGAIN.

3. Discount Codes
Nothing can tempt you into making an online order quite like  the promise of free next day delivery or 20% off with your own exclusive discount code. Online retailers know this, and this is why they’ll occasionally throw these little treats our way. However, these discount codes aren’t really that occasional at all – 9 times out of 10, there are discount codes floating around for your favourite store that you just don’t know about. A quick Google of a phrase such as ‘Missguided discount code’ will bring up numerous sites (Latest Fashion Deals being just one that I quite regularly turn to) that will list all the latest offers or discounts available on that site. The amount of times I’ve managed to shave 10 or 20% off an order is amazing, and guess what magically happens? About 80% of your shoppers guilt is shaved off at the time. Magic, hey?

4.Check Online First
I particularly use this tip when it comes to buying new beauty items. Boots and Superdrug are the two dominant beauty shops on the high street, with both stocking most of the same brands and products. The chances are most of us will pay a cheeky visit to both of these establishments during our shopping trips, and often it’s just a case of which one we head into first that will determine which one reaps the rewards of our impulse shopping. There’s nothing more annoying, though – and I mean NOTHING – than finding out that one of them has a huge offer on a brand after you’ve just paid full price for the same products at the other one, so have a quick check online before you head off shopping to see which is the best place for the bits you know you might want.

I hope you’ve found some of these tips remotely useful. As the old saying goes, ‘take care of the pennies and the pounds take care of themselves and you have even more pennies to spend on other junk’!

September Haul: Missguided & Bodycare

iyaaaa! Right, now the politeness of the day is over, let’s get on with it.

Today we have a super fun haul post for you all. Yes we are officially still on our spending ban (and are delighted to announce that it’s been worth it thus far as our application for our new house has been accepted! AWOOGA) but in our defence, many of these products were absolute life necessities. I mean, do you really expect us to go through life without false eyelashes? What sort of barbarian are you?

As it was payday on Wednesday we actually ventured away from our desks at lunch time and went into town. Like the big spenders we are, we headed straight to Bodycare to stock up on all of our cheapy cheap beauty essentials. We then came back to our desks and placed some orders online because we’d scratched the shopping itch, but just made it more itchy and needed to scratch it some more. Hate when that happens, don’t you?

Here’s a little run-down of some stuff we purchased:

Lauren

DSCN3005T Zone Pore Strips | L’oral Elvive Triple Resist Hair Mask | Schwartzkopft Supersoft Volumising Hairspray | St Moriz Tan Dark | Aussie Miracle Mask | L’oreal Hot & Smooth Serum | Clean & Clear Deep Action Cleanser | Nivea Harmony Time Shower Gel | Eye Candy Lashes | Rimmel Lasting Finish 200 | Rimmel Stay Matte Powder | Gold chain from eBay

Gut gott in himmel, I accidentally spent £30 in Bodycare. As Drizzy would say however, you only live once and my life required lots of new beauty products. CUFF ME.

I won’t bore you too much, but a couple of these products I would thoroughly recommend. First off, Eye Candy eyelashes are a big favourite of mine and they are amazing quality for the price. When I get the chance to go to Bodycare, I always stock up on these badboys. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to Eylure, then these are your man!

DSCN2997

I also have loads of love for this heat protecting serum, L’Oreal Hot & Smooth. I used to use this all the time when I was younger and first started straightening my hair and sort of forgot about it until I saw it the other day. They’ve changed the packaging to be a bit more jazzy, but it’s definitely the same product inside. 100% recommend it, especially if you are skint like I am but still want to protect your locks. HUZZAH.

2 DSCN3005

I put in an order with Missguided after spending about 300000 hours trying to figure out what to buy. This dungaree dress was the result, which I LOVE. Unfortunately it’s way too big so I’m going to have to return it and exchange, but it’s the perfect A/W addition to my floordrobe – 90s you are back with a vengeance, my son!

September Haul 3Kimono | Crop Tee | Bodycon Midi Dress – Missguided

I also bought quite a few bits in Bodycare, but as I started scooping up my various shower gels and body scrubs to photograph it occurred to me how massively boring they all were so I thought ‘EFF THIS!’ and threw them all back into the shower. My Missguided order was thankfully a little more interesting; I snapped up this kimono (there’s 15% off them this week, so go go go!) and crop tee to wear over the weekend as we’re going to the Bullring’s tenth birthday catwalk show so I fancied something new – don’t worry, I’ll also be wearing something on my bottom half, I’m not trying to be the most scandalous person in Birmingham (Lauren already has that title).

I also finally bought this midi dress that I look at each time I’m on their site. I’ve always been put off buying it as the sizes only some in ‘S/M’ or ‘M/L’ (which is something that annoys me more than you would even believe, how can they narrow down all the shapes and sizes of women in the UK to just two sizes? How? How and why and how?!) but it’s part of the Sweet Deal range and only costs £5.99 so I decided it wasn’t the end of the world if it didn’t fit. It’s an okay fit; as I expected it’s too baggy on me to really be called bodycon, but it still sits quite nicely and is a good length so is fine for work – and still amazing for the price!

What have you all been buying lately? And what do you think of this haul?

3CE Lip Pigments / OCC Lip Tar Dupes | Review

3CE 1When these finally arrived at work for me after a 2-3 week delivery waiting time  from China, it was typically a day that Lauren was off sick. This meant that my yelps of “Look! Look what’s came! Look what they do!” were largely ignored by all the boys in the  office, who looked at me blankly for about 2 seconds before going back to talking about, I don’t know, servers or something.

I was SUPER excited about them though because as I say I’d been waiting flippin’ weeks for them and couldn’t wait to give them a whirl.

Most people are familiar with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ cult ‘Lip Tars’. These are highly pigmented products that are meant to have the smoothness of a gloss but the longevity of a lipstick – so a bit similar to Stila’s liquid lipsticks or Rimmel’s Apocalips, but the pigment factor means that the tiny tubes are meant to last you FOREVER. The range is also completely mixable and contains black, white, yellow and blue so that you can get all jazzy and creative with your lip colours. I’ve heard quite a few people rave about the OCC Lip tars, but at £11 each they’ve never sneaked their way to the top of my ‘to buy’ list.

3CE 2

3CE 11But when I saw these 3CE lip pigments on someone’s Instagram (I wish I could remember whose, let me know if you’re reading this and it was yours!) my interest was piqued. Now, there have been a few high street attempt at OCC dupes – Sleek’s Pout Paints being one – but none as far as I know that are as cheap as these. Brace yourselves, women and children, for these are just £1.90 each. China, you never fail to amaze me.

I immediately decided to snap one up to see if they were any good. And then accidentally ended up snapping up 4. But at those prices, how could I say no? So with free delivery I had all four of the above products sent to me for just £7.60.

There are 7 shades to choose from, but I decided on the somewhat randomly named White, Plum, A1 (..?!) and Pink. When they arrived, these were thankfully labelled on the boxes in a much more understandable system of 01, 02, 03 and 04. 01 is the white mixing colour, 02 is a bright purple-pink, 03 a deep orange and 04 is my go-to colour of choice, a pale peachy-pink. Each pigment comes in a box with its own little lip brush.

Swatches

3CE 3As you can see, the word pigment is CORRECT and these are very bright shades. The consistency is thick and not runny, but then not so thick it’s difficult to blend – it’s basically like those stupid expensive paints in the tubes you had to buy if you did GCSE Art (which are a proper waste of money when you only come out with a C, puh).

I found application a leeeeeeeetle bit tricky just because I’m not used to using a lip brush – also I suspect that the ones provided are too small to do the job properly, unless you have tiny thin lips or are planning to put these on your grandad. With a bit of a combination of lip brush action and some good old fashioned finger dabbing though, I eventually applied a nice coat of each for your perusal:

3CE 4

3ce 5

3CE 6

Mixed Swatches

The really exciting part of the pigments for me comes when you get to the mixing. Although they can all be mixed with each other, I decided to keep it simple and so below is each colour mixed in equal parts with the white 01 shade.

3ce 7Stating the obvious here but this created a lighter, more pastel version of each shade. I personally liked these colours more than the non-mixed versions, just because I’m not really a ‘bright lipstick in the day’ sort of person so these were much more in my comfort zone. I also don’t think stark orange looks very nice against my skin tone, whereas the more peachy colour that’s created when 01 is mixed in is much more wearable. I think the addition of the white also made each pigment look a bit glossier, though it’s also possible that I’d just got better at application by this point and wasn’t being such a cack-handed idiot.

3CE 8

3CE 9

3CE 10Ever a creature of habit, the final pale pink colour of 01+04 is of course my favourite, though I honestly do like the whole shade range.

I suppose the negative of these products is the fussiness of application in regards to the brush etc. It’s not a big problem with the individual shades as I have since found that finger application is okay; but when it comes to mixing up colours with the white then this definitely becomes a little less practical. You could find the perfect shade for a night out, but re-application is going to become a bit of a nightmare unless you want to crack out your artist’s palette and start mixing shades in the toilets of a nightclub.

The counter-argument to this though (ooft, mention of my GCSEs seems to have brought out the essayist in me) is that the high pigmentation means that the colour lasts. I would definitely back this claim up; I wore 04 to work yesterday and even after a good few hours there was still a strong stain of colour on my lips. Although my lips definitely started to feel dry and I had to slap a bit of lip balm on, I’m also happy to report that it didn’t end up caking or clinging to dry parts of my lips too much, which is always a worry of mine.

Overall I am vair, vair impressed with these cheap little beauties. The shade range of the OCC Lip tars is far more extensive and after watching a few Youtube videos with them in, they do look like they apply a bit slicker than these 3CE dupes. For the money though, you can’t complain. You just can’t, or I’ll have to proclaim you to be some sort of pedantic fool.

As I said, these lip pigments were just £1.90 and I bought them from this seller –  I can’t see them listed there anymore, but plenty of others also do them. As in most cases, you can find UK sellers who will get them to you much quicker but they’ll cost you a good few quid more.

Have any of you tried these, or any other 3CE products? Or are you loyal to OCC? Let me know what you think in the comments below, and leave your blog links too!

Currently Watching: eBay Wishlist

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: I bloody well love eBay! I always have at least twenty things in my ‘watching’ list, which I look at daily like a creepy Peeping Tom. A lot of stuff gets deleted once I go off it, but other bits lurk around there for weeks until I inevitably lose all willpower and make that transaction. Here are some of the things I’m currently lusting after:

ebay watching

1. Lipstick Storage Box – £2.99
2. Floral Jumper– £8.95
3. Tartan Scarf – £8.99
4. Platform PU Leather Chelsea Boots – £22
5. Lace Turban Headband – £2.00
6. 9 Piece Knuckle Stacker Rings – £1.85

An example of my piss poor willpower: in the few minutes it took me to write those prices down, I’ve just bought the jumper. The mind is willing but the flesh is weak.

What do you all think of these items? What are you watching on eBay at the moment?

Outfit of the Day: Leather Sleeved T-Shirt Dress

OOTD 8th September 1 SmallerT-shirt – Primark / Necklace – Primark / Boots – New Look / Socks – eBay

Merry Sunday everybody! So even though it was bloody FWEEZING last night and I actually debated putting the heating on, today has remained quite warm and it seems that summer’s determined to cling on for a while yet. However, we’ve already stated that here at Stylingo we’re feeling pretty over summer now (something which makes our friend Jade very angry, bahaha) and so I’m just not feeling very drawn to any of my summery dresses or denim bits at the moment. This outfit then, is my attempt at dressing weather-appropriate while still refusing to step back into the summery past.

OOTD 8th September

OOTD 8th September Legs

I featured this t-shirt in my August haul post where I stated that I’d bought it a few sizes too big to wear it as a dress. I’m pleased to say that I think this kind of works, which means I’m wearing a dress that cost just £4. The boots are my beloved New Look babies (which keep getting lots of lovely compliments when I wear them, huzzah) paired with the cheapy little lace socks I included in my eBay haul.

This is also the first time that my new white(ish) locks have been featured in an OOTD – what do you all think?

September eBay Haul: Fashion and Beauty

Anybody who knows me knows that I love a bit of eBay. Whether it’s screaming ‘YES, EAT MY DUST BITCHES’ when I speedily out-bid someone or just browsing for a Buy It Now bargain, I can (and do) happily spend hours of my life scouring the site.

I know that not everybody likes the auction aspect of the site (though how else do you people get your kicks if not from destroying other bidders with your super-fast finger skills?) but what always amazes me is how many people don’t understand the full wonders that can be found by shopping via eBay. I get literally so much junk useful hair, beauty and fashion bits from there that I either wouldn’t be able to track down on the high street, or would pay much more for.

I’ve had a fair few bits delivered from eBay the last month or so, so thought I would make a collective haul post to show you all my wares. All of these were bought brand new for a Buy It Now price.

ebay haul tangle 3
ebay haul tangleTangle Teezer by Shaun P – £8.50 (UK Seller)
My weave has a mind of it’s own so I decided it was definitely worth investing in one of these babies. The thick, widely spaced teeth glide through hair effortlessly, and I’m already wondering how I ever got through life without it. These have an RRP of £10.20 on the official site, so buying via this eBay seller will save you a couple of squid.

ebay haul t-shirt
ebay haul t-shirt 2‘You Can’t Sit With Us’ T-shirt – £6.99 (UK Seller)
If you don’t understand this t-shirt then you’re more stupid than Karen!

ebay haul coat
ebay Haul coat 2PU Sleeved Wool Mix Coat – £18.99 (Overseas Seller)
Here is a fact about me: last winter, I was very very cold most of the time. ‘DUH,’ I hear you cry, ‘everyone was cold! It was winter!’ But, dear readers, I was especially cold because I went the whole winter without ever wearing a proper coat. I alternated between my Topshop leather aviator jacket and a faux fur jacket from H&M, neither of which kept me particularly warm. I think last winter I just had a lot of other priorities which meant I was never willing to fork out for a proper coat (if I recall, I developed quite a strong addiction to frozen yoghurt which perhaps needed funding). This year, I decided to be ahead of the game.

You can’t tell from the awful photo but this coat is rather beautiful – its quilted leather sleeves give it a bit of a nod to winter fashion, while the black wool makes it still a very practical, work-appropriate piece of outerwear. As it came from China, I was a bit unsure of which size to get. They advise that a Small is a UK 6, a Medium a UK 8 and a Large a UK 10 (I know, how ridiculous is this – THANKS, CHINA). However, because of my height I find coats are often too big and bulky so decided to order the Small anyway – and it actually still comes up a little big, so I would definitely advise sizing down with this. It cost £18.99 and then about £5 on top of that for postage – so I have no idea why the tag marks it as over 80 euros. I have seen UK sellers on eBay attempting to sell this same coat for about £50 though, which is why it’s always worth having a proper search to see if you can get something cheaper overseas. I know people have problems with the long postage, but I think this actually came in around 10-14 days which I don’t think is too bad at all.

eBay Haul RollersSleep In Foam Rollers x 12  – £4.28 (UK Seller)
I’ve blogged about these previously, but they really are an excellent bargain. A set of the genuine Sleep-In Rollers will set you back around £20, which is just a bit stupid when you consider you’re buying hair rollers with bits of foam in them.

eBay Haul phone iPhone 4S White Quilted Cover – £3.29 (UK Seller)
I still can’t decide whether this is a bit chavvy, but considering I got it to replace my much-loved silver glitter case then it can definitely be regarded as an upgrade.

eBay Haul socksLace Ankle Socks – £1.19 per pair (Overseas Seller)
I was on the hunt for some quirky ankle socks and so was overjoyed to find these full-lace versions. I bought this white pair, as well as the black that you can see in my cut-out ankle boots post. Again, these arrived quicker than I expected.

eBay Haul brushes 2
eBay Haul brushesMakeup Brushes – £2.59 each
Do these remind anyone of a certain famous brand of makeup brushes? O’ course they do; at first glance they’re the spitting image of Real Techniques brushes. I first saw these very similar eBay brushes featured over on Rebecca-Louse’s fabulous blog Autumn Leaves, and decided to buy a few merely out of curiosity and to do a bit of an eBay dupes post.

However, I’ve actually been SO impressed with their quality. These brushes are amazingly soft and I haven’t experienced any loss of fibres yet either. I know some people will probably be dead against the very idea of these brushes because people are SO loyal to the cult RT brushes, but bargain hunters might be interested in picking up a couple to bulk out their brush collection.

eBay haul toner 2La Riche Directions White Toner – £7.89 for 2
I won’t say too much about this as I have a full review coming, but I bought two pots of this white toner after home bleaching my hair. I think these can be picked up a bit cheaper from stores, but this was the cheapest price I found online. Plus buying online meant I got them delivered nicely to my desk at work and didn’t actually have to go and interact with any smelly members of the public.

Do any of you love eBay as much as me? What do you think of this haul?
