January Fashion Haul: Missguided, Boohoo & Primark

So, how are all of your post-Christmas spending bans going? Yeah, mine’s going great too thanks. Anyway, moving on…

Haul 11th Collage 1Playsuit (sold out) £15 / Jumpsuit £25 – Both Missguided.com
I placed a cheeky little Missguided order just after Christmas, I think with the intention of getting something to wear for New Year’s Eve. In the end our NYE plans were cancelled and I ended up staying in, eating pizza and watching repeats of Stars in Their Eyes (which was surprisingly fun, actually – there was a very impressive Cliff Richard), so neither of these were worn for the occasion – but aren’t they flippin’ beautiful?

I also picked up a Bardot body from the Sweet Deal range (though that’s currently in the wash) and some leggings – which did NOT please me length-wise, being the longest leggings known to mankind and completely unwearable. Hmph.

Haul 11th Collage 2Crop Top (sold out) £4 / Chelsea Boots£ 30 – Both Boohoo.com
Not long after New Year I ended up making a little Boohoo order too. This was for no other reason than I was fighting the January blues, and realised that these boots were the one and only thing that could bring happiness to my life. And my oh my, they have made every day better since.

Haul 11th 7Sports Bra £4 – Primark
My gym is currently twice as busy as it was pre-Christmas due to all of the ‘New Year New Me’ gym joiners – and this is a trend that Primark clearly knows all about, as their gymwear has been moved from a dusty corner at the back, right to the front of my local store. Now, it will come as no surprise to you that I don’t really need to wear a sports bra, seeing as I essentially have no boobs whatsoever – but I couldn’t say no to this neon crop of joy.

Haul 11th 6Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan / Sultry Eyelashes £1 each – both Primark
I’ve been wanting to try out the Cocoa Brown fake tan for ever and ever and ever AMEN, and today was finally the day I added it to my massive Primark basket. I’m going to a party tonight and am currently the ultimate pail Gale, so can’t wait to blast my skin with this and see how it turns out. I think this is about £6 a bottle (currently too comfy on the sofa to go and check my receipt, soz) which is expensive compared to my usual St Moriz – but I’ve heard such good things about it that I decided it was worth the extra pounds. Rumour has it that Cocoa Brown tan doesn’t even smell like fake tan. Wizardry.

I also stocked up on a couple of pairs of Primark’s eyelashes in ‘Sultry’. I reviewed these lashes here and they’re genuinely pretty amazing for just one measly quid.

Haul 11th 5Necklace £3 / Midi Rings £1.50 – Both Primark
Primark’s currently coming up with some absolutely beautiful statement necklaces, and this one was too much of a bargain to resist. You can’t see well in the photo, but it’s rose gold metal woven with a kind of pearlescent cream material. I also picked up a pack of three silver midi rings. I have horrendously fat fingers and so I’ve got no idea whether these will look good or not, but for £1.50 I was willing to risk it.

I also picked up some Primark essentials including tights, leggings, hair bands and a new hair donut, but thought I’d spare you the boredom of seeing those. And now I must get back to my life, and look up what ‘spending ban’ actually means…

What do you think of this haul? What have you been buying lately?

The Baroque Trend: Best of the Highstreet

Good day to Baroque Obama friends,

I am a big fan of the baroque trend. Anything that means over the top, luxurious and grand is most definitely up my street. You might have noticed this in my outfit of the day from a while ago, where I basically wore a cathedral ceiling (have a nosey at my ootd here). This winter, the baroque trend has been quite gothic and dark (big surprise, are winter trends ever not gothic and dark?), but there are some seriously beautiful things on the high street at the moment.

If you’re looking to foray into Baroque territory, there are a few key things to remember. Firstly, the more textures you can get on your body the better and you get top marks if these include lace, fur and velvet. Gold is also your bessie mate: anything with any form of jazzy gold will make sure that you look tip top and brilliant. If you try and imagine yourself as a mixture of a highly decorated church and a 16th Century vampire, you’re kind of on the right track.

Anyway, as a firm believer that more is more in every aspect of my life, I love the Baroque look. And the high street has some amazing pieces that tick the Baroque boxes perfectly. Whether you are a poor tramp or want to splash out a bit more cashola, there is definitely something for everyone out there.

Wowsers, this all looks a little bit mad in one collage! I personally wouldn’t recommend wearing the Missguided Alter Tshirt with the River Island Jewel Baroque Leggings for example…although I’m sure there’s some brilliant gal in the blogging world that could pull that off! I personally love the green sequin playsuit and the chain print sweatshirt. As a consistent lover of a good gold chain necklace, I’m also hugely keen for that River Island chain necklace – it is huuuuuge and fabulous.

What do you think of the Baroque trend? Are you keen for the over the top glamour or is this not really your thing?

Outfit of the Day: Missguided Jewel Print Skater Dress

Hi chums,

Things have all got somewhat unusual recently and Claire and I actually have quite a busy social calendar. You can usually find us Stylingo gals discussing the pros and cons of sweet potatoes (there are no cons) whilst watching Catfish on the sofa. However people have suddenly decided that we are not mad and invited us to things. December is a sooooooper busy month for both of us and of course with any busy month comes the insatiable need for new threads.

We both went to an absolutely excellent party on Saturday night, complete with a buffet and cupcakes (which we very nearly sprinted to as soon as we arrived). I picked out this Missguided skater dress a few weeks ago to wear to the disco party – and I am of the opinion that it’s a corker. I love the gem/jewel print and the colour is quite unusual for me (PARDON, YOU ARE NOT WEARING CREAM OR CHIFFON, LAUREN). Unfortunately, I had to size down as they only had smaller sizes in stock – which meant I couldn’t eat as many cocktail sausages as I would have liked.

And this was what my face looked like. I apologise for looking so dead behind the eyes. We had a work’s Christmas party the night before and safe to say, wine/jaegerbombs/vodka/who knows what else were merrily drunk. As was I.

What do you think of this outfit? How lovely is that jewel print!

Outfit of the Day: Missguided Bardot Playsuit

ootd 1st d collage 1Playsuit: Missguided / Belt: Primark / Bag: Primark / Shoes: Asos

Okay, so remember how a while ago I made a vow to give up fake tan (and even wrote a whole post on it)? Yeah, well, safe to say that’s gone out the window…

On Saturday night one of my besty pals had a party as she’s leaving to go travelling in a couple of weeks. Naturally I wanted to wear full black and a black veil to show how devvoed I am about her not being around for the next year, but in the interest of not killing the party vibe I instead opted for this Missguided playsuit. It was only £19.99 but is currently in the sale with a whopping 30% off so if you like it then GO GO GO!

ootd 1st d 4 ootd 1st d 5Rings: eBay and Primark / Nails: Barry M ‘Lychee’

I kept accessories pretty simple with a skinny tan belt from Primark, a couple of cheapo rings and my beloved but much abused nude heels. Although I love them, I have to admit they’re not the comfiest of heels, meaning that by half 3 I was doing the ‘help I have been cobbled like the man in Misery‘ dance – which no, does not attract the boys, funnily enough.

ootd 1st d 6Eyelashes: Eylure 202 / Lipstick: MAC Creme D’Nude

It was an all round tip top night that resulted in a seriously zombie-like state for the majority of yesterday. Eventually the only cure was a takeaway pizza. That I ordered alone. For one. At half 4 in the afternoon.

What do you all think of this outfit?

Outfit of the Day: Mirror Edition #2

Merry Saturday, one and all! So, anyone who gives a tiny poo (i.e. probably nobody) may have noticed that I’ve been somewhat absent from the OOTD hype as of late. This is partly due to some technical problems at Stylingo HQ in the form of our camera finally biting the dust, and what can only be described as personality problems on my part as I’m too lazy to take photos at work.

But, just in case anybody is really curious about what I’ve been wearing recently, here are a few mirror snaps that I’ve uploaded to our Instagram account:
12 Nov 1
Black Dress – H&M / Kimono – Missguided / Rose Gold Cross – Primark / Brogues – New Look / Bag – Marc B

Remember when I said that I have a tendency to overload on black during the autumn and winter months? Well here is a prime example of me doing so. The lace kimono from Missguided is still one of my favourite items after I first wore it to the Bullring Ten event, and teamed with a simple black dress (which you can’t see at all, but is fitted and has a high mesh neckline) it’s the perfect way to pretty up an outfit. The Marc B bag that I got for my birthday this year is also still a firm fave of mine and rarely leaves the nook of my arm.

12 Nov 2Leotard – Primark / Jeggings – Topshop

I’ve had this leotard for probably around two years now but have just brought it out of hibernation again after realising I still love it quite a lot. Worn with my Topshop jeggings it created quite a fun casual outfit – though I still wore this for work, God help me if I ever work in a strict office.

12 Nov 4Dress – Topshop / Blazer – eBay / Silver Cross – Primark

This is definitely one of my more work-appropriate outfits, even with the paint-splattered effect of the dress. This dress is a really loose fitting swing dress that is a bit swampy on its own, so the addition of the cropped waterfall blazer (which I also have in mint, so keen I am for it) makes it a bit more fitted. I accessorised with my trusty silver cross, and seemingly some trampy hair bobbles on my wrist, which I always accidentally leave on (but I think they may become super fashionable soon, so it’s fine).

12 Nov 3Crop Jumper – Topshop (old) / Skater Dress – Topshop / Necklace – eBay / Nails – Barry M ‘Duchess’

I actually tried to get proper OOTD pictures in this outfit the other day, but the winds were somewhat… shall we say whirlwind-esque? .. so I looked a state in all of them. Layering jumpers over dresses and playsuits is something I definitely plan to do more of this winter, and this cropped Topshop jumper that I’ve had for a couple of years is perfect for it. I’m still loving the Barry M nail polish from the Royal Glitter collection (I reviewed it in full here if you fancy a read) and tend to keep my jewellery quite minimal where I’m wearing it.

What do you think of these outfits? Do you have a favourite?

Missguided Party Dress Wishlist

It’s no secret that Lauren and I love Missguided – not just a bit, but mega loads. They have SO many clothes on the site that you never really have to worry about bumping into someone else wearing the same dress as you, and their stuff for the most part is really reasonably priced (especially the Sweet Deal range, which has expanded even more since our original post on it a few months ago).

I’ve got a party to go to in a few weeks and have been eying up a lot of potential outfits on the site; but due to my title as the Most Indecisive Girl in the Midlands 2013, I can’t pick which one I like best. Usually, I’d order a couple and return the ones I liked least – however, my one bug bear with Missguided is that you end up being charged for returns (NOT COOL) so I’m not keen on this idea. I’ve therefore put together a little shortlist of my favourite pieces at the mo.

The contenders are…

Missguided Wishlist 1
Chiffon Playsuit (£20.49) – I ‘m a big fan of playsuits (despite the inevitable nakedness when you go to the loo, which is awkward when you share cubicles with your mates and have to shout ‘FACE THE DOOR! DON’T LOOK AT ME YOU PERVERT!’) and love the smudge print of this one. I also like the chiffon and the loose waist, which will be perfect for the large amount of buffet food I’ll inevitably consume at the party.

Strappy Chiffon Playsuit (£24.99) – chiffon, check, playsuit, check – I sense a theme. Burgundy is one of my favourite colours for A/W and so I think this is a great choice for a November party. Sometimes thin straps make my shoulders look approximately seven feet wide though, so this one is not quite top of my list.

Leather and Tweed Dress (£24.99) – this dress ticks two trend boxes in one, but would the length be a little too short for a party full of my friend’s family members? I don’t want anyone’s auntie Sue thinking I’m a hoochie (even if I am)(that was a joke)(or was it?)

Missguided Wishlist 2

Strappy Chain Mini Dress (£24.99) – gold chains on clothes always screams ‘River Island’ to me, but I’ve noticed them popping up a lot more recently am slowly starting to wonder whether I actually don’t find them hideous anymore. I like the double-strap of this one, plus I’m once again thinking of how well that loose fit would cope with my buffet over-indulgence!

Flower Print Playsuit (14.99 in sale) – this is just the flippin’ cutest thing ever in my opinion, and currently half price in the sale, my ‘buy it now’ urges are strong.

Jungle Print Mini Dress (£24.99) – the green and purple contrast is what really catches my eye with this dress, and the jungle print is really unique.

So, these are currently the dresses and playsuits in the running for my party outfit – but which one gets your vote?

Outfit of the Day: Baroque Missguided Tshirt Dress

Hello ragamuffins,

As you may have discovered if you read our blog a lot, it was Claire’s birthday over the weekend and we had a whale of a time drinking Lambrini and lurking about like the lunatics we are. Thankfully, she received lots of lovely presents to keep the blog going while I have been in a pit of sadness over my lack of stuff (sob sob).

We went out on Saturday night for a jolly old knees up and I can safely say, making hash browns at silly o’clock in the morning is a sign of a great night – no jokes. I would like to stress that these were potato-based hash browns and not made from wacky baccy, before you all start thinking I am some kind of hoodlum. Whilst stressing about what to wear (it’s been so long since my last night out that I had forgotten what on earth you wear to bars. I almost went for the middle-aged option of a nice pair of black work trousers and kitten heels. Thankfully Claire slapped me out of it before things got out of hand), I ended up buying what can only be described as a cathedral.

Some might say that a bright gold dress with what I think are cherubs printed on it would be enough bling to be going on with. I say NAY. I piled on a statement gold necklace, curled my newly weaved locks and glued on a pair of double eyelashes. Subtle? No. Magnificently dope? Probably not either. But anyway, I was happy with the general look and popped on my favourite nude wedges (after Claire instructed us to wear our comfiest shoes because we would be drinking £4 Lambrini with a straw) as well as a new Primark box bag/satchel. HUZZAH AND THANK YOU TO THE QUEEN, it is the only recent new purchase that I have made but I love it – a useful little number to stash my vast array of things in.

Keep your eyes peeled for Claire’s outfit of the night, which will be on its way soon! What do you all think about this Missguided tshirt dress? It’s very loud but I can’t help but have huge amounts of love for it. My descent into garish madness begins!

September Haul: Missguided & Bodycare

iyaaaa! Right, now the politeness of the day is over, let’s get on with it.

Today we have a super fun haul post for you all. Yes we are officially still on our spending ban (and are delighted to announce that it’s been worth it thus far as our application for our new house has been accepted! AWOOGA) but in our defence, many of these products were absolute life necessities. I mean, do you really expect us to go through life without false eyelashes? What sort of barbarian are you?

As it was payday on Wednesday we actually ventured away from our desks at lunch time and went into town. Like the big spenders we are, we headed straight to Bodycare to stock up on all of our cheapy cheap beauty essentials. We then came back to our desks and placed some orders online because we’d scratched the shopping itch, but just made it more itchy and needed to scratch it some more. Hate when that happens, don’t you?

Here’s a little run-down of some stuff we purchased:

Lauren

DSCN3005T Zone Pore Strips | L’oral Elvive Triple Resist Hair Mask | Schwartzkopft Supersoft Volumising Hairspray | St Moriz Tan Dark | Aussie Miracle Mask | L’oreal Hot & Smooth Serum | Clean & Clear Deep Action Cleanser | Nivea Harmony Time Shower Gel | Eye Candy Lashes | Rimmel Lasting Finish 200 | Rimmel Stay Matte Powder | Gold chain from eBay

Gut gott in himmel, I accidentally spent £30 in Bodycare. As Drizzy would say however, you only live once and my life required lots of new beauty products. CUFF ME.

I won’t bore you too much, but a couple of these products I would thoroughly recommend. First off, Eye Candy eyelashes are a big favourite of mine and they are amazing quality for the price. When I get the chance to go to Bodycare, I always stock up on these badboys. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to Eylure, then these are your man!

DSCN2997

I also have loads of love for this heat protecting serum, L’Oreal Hot & Smooth. I used to use this all the time when I was younger and first started straightening my hair and sort of forgot about it until I saw it the other day. They’ve changed the packaging to be a bit more jazzy, but it’s definitely the same product inside. 100% recommend it, especially if you are skint like I am but still want to protect your locks. HUZZAH.

2 DSCN3005

I put in an order with Missguided after spending about 300000 hours trying to figure out what to buy. This dungaree dress was the result, which I LOVE. Unfortunately it’s way too big so I’m going to have to return it and exchange, but it’s the perfect A/W addition to my floordrobe – 90s you are back with a vengeance, my son!

September Haul 3Kimono | Crop Tee | Bodycon Midi Dress – Missguided

I also bought quite a few bits in Bodycare, but as I started scooping up my various shower gels and body scrubs to photograph it occurred to me how massively boring they all were so I thought ‘EFF THIS!’ and threw them all back into the shower. My Missguided order was thankfully a little more interesting; I snapped up this kimono (there’s 15% off them this week, so go go go!) and crop tee to wear over the weekend as we’re going to the Bullring’s tenth birthday catwalk show so I fancied something new – don’t worry, I’ll also be wearing something on my bottom half, I’m not trying to be the most scandalous person in Birmingham (Lauren already has that title).

I also finally bought this midi dress that I look at each time I’m on their site. I’ve always been put off buying it as the sizes only some in ‘S/M’ or ‘M/L’ (which is something that annoys me more than you would even believe, how can they narrow down all the shapes and sizes of women in the UK to just two sizes? How? How and why and how?!) but it’s part of the Sweet Deal range and only costs £5.99 so I decided it wasn’t the end of the world if it didn’t fit. It’s an okay fit; as I expected it’s too baggy on me to really be called bodycon, but it still sits quite nicely and is a good length so is fine for work – and still amazing for the price!

What have you all been buying lately? And what do you think of this haul?

If I Was A Rich Girl | September Wishlist.

Hello lovely ladies,

Claire and I are currently on a horrible spending ban, which means life is terribly tragic and boring at the moment. BUT IT DOESN’T MEAN WE CAN’T DREAM. I’ve got lots of things I’m hugely lusting over at the moment, so I’m quietly making a list of stuff to go wild over when I finally allow myself to spend some hard earned dollah.

Screen shot 2013-09-14 at 21.23.35

1. Missguided leather panel midi skirt. 2. Topshop lipstick in Hazard 3. Seventeen animal bronzer. 4. Topshop geometric print trousers 5. Boohoo brocade cape. 6. Urban Outfitters lattice shoulder blouse 7. Asos coat with leather sleeves. 8. Too Faced Natural at Night Palette.

1. GOOD LORD, I love this skirt. It’s Claire’s birthday soon so obviously I need something new to wear. We’re going for a faaaaaaaayncy dinner, so I need something a little sophisticated to keep up appearances. I’m loving the leather panels and I’m thinking it’s a good way to incorporate the leather autumn/wintertrend into my ‘drobe.

2. Let’s all face it, deep red lippy is an absolute necessity for colder weather. I need this more than life, isn’t it gorgeous?

3. I don’t really need a new bronzer BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE ANIMAL PRINT? HAVE YOU?!

4. These trousers are incredible, I love the print with all my heart. I feel like I need more trousers in my wardrobe and these are definitely on my trouser list.

5. This Boohoo cape is amazing – bring me the capes…that’s right China. All the capes.

6. Those who know me will know I have about 10000 white blouses but this is one that I would love to add to my collection! I can’t wait to give everyone flashes of my shoulders, ooer.

7. I am in need of a winter coat as all of mine of boring and uncool. This Asos one makes me want to cry with love and admiration.

8. I love a natural eye palette and how fabulous does this one look? SO FABULOUS, THAT’S HOW.

So, home girls, this is my September wishlist – what do you all think? Any things you’re lusting over but can’t get quite yet?

Outfit of the Day: Missguided Printed Midi Dress.

P1060837-1

Hello dear pals,

This is just a quick OOTD from Saturday night. I popped home back to Cheshire where my parents live for the night, because one of my best pals returned from travelling and we went for a delightful night out. The palaver of getting my mum to take this photo is the reason why I look like a genuine gomp (particularly as my brother and dad were chuckling to themselves in the background SHUT UP DAD, THIS IS WHAT BLOGGERS DO).

I’ve actually had this dress for a while now, but I haven’t worn it out properly (believe it or not, I wear it to work a lot. And get many a strange look. Subtlety is not my speciality). It’s a little Missguided number and I’m assuming it’s snake print, but it may also be tiger print. Or some kind of tie dye. You choose ;). It can be bought at the bargain price of £14.99 here if you’re interested! I teamed it with a pair of hoof like wedges that I bought for gradball last year (sob sob, where has my life gone), which I do like but are a big baggy around the ankles. They were from Garage Shoes (I am a tramp, I know) and I am fairly certain that they are no longer available!

My hair looked crap.
