Outfit of the Day: Cami and Leather Look Leggings

??????????Cami – Primark / Leather Look Leggings – River Island (old) / Shoes – ASOS /Necklace – eBay / Ring – Primark

Greetings earthlings! I’m going to state the obvious and say that this is not my OOTD from today. Today’s a Thursday, I’m at work, and I don’t think the world of digital marketing is quite ready for leather-look leggings and 7 inch heels (much to my disappointment).

This is actually what I wore when we went out on bank holiday Sunday for a couple of drinks. I know it’s incredibly, painfully, momentously, catastrophically dull but basically a nasty encounter with some sort of bug left me with a really ugly bite mark on my leg so I had to cover up. Well, that and the fact that I managed to get attractive tan streaks on the white dress I was considering wearing. I really am such a failure at life.

I never really got on the disco leggings hype and instead managed to blag my way through that fashion phase by re-wearing my old leather look leggings. I thought I did well to get away with it for a while, but am confused by the fact that, seeing as leather is sticking around again into Autumn/Winter, I might still be able to wear these? It just doesn’t seem right to get so much wear out of one item, it’s like living during a war!*

Primark False Eyelashes in ‘Sultry’ | Review

Primark Lashes 4Two of my main loves in life: Primark and false eyelashes. So I was beyond shocked when I found out that Primark are now selling their own range of lashes that I knew nothing about. Ever the dedicated blogger, I picked up a couple of pairs on my last trip to town and gave them a whirl at the weekend. There a few variations to choose from; I bought the above ‘Sultry Lashes’ as well as a pair of ‘Natural Lashes’ (I know this doesn’t sound like me, I think know I’m getting old and boring). The Sultry Lashes, believe it or not, weren’t the longest or thickest ones available so those of you who are dedicated to the proper Camel Lash might want to give the next size up a try. These are perfect for me though, as I always prefer slightly feathery false eyelashes, and ones that criss-cross over like this are a particular fave.

I’m definitely not snobby when it comes to lashes – although we all accept that Eylure are the metaphorical dog’s cojones, at a fiver a go they get mighty pricey. I therefore dabble quite a lot in cheaper alternatives from brands such as Brit Rocks which retail more around the £3 mark. These Primark ones though were just £1. Yes you read that right – ONE ENGLISH POUND STERLING. This is unbelievably cheap and so to be honest, I wasn’t expecting a huge amount from them. And guess what, dear readers and strange people of the world? I was so pleasantly surprised!

Tell-tale signs of cheaper lashes usually include a very thick, plasticky band and a very shiny finish. These factors are both pleasingly absent from the Primark lashes. The band is nice and thin, making them easy to glue down, and the lashes themselves are as feathery and flexible as more expensive brands. The lashes came with their own adhesive, but I think it’s the glue that often lets cheaper makes down. I shunned the included bottle in favour of my big bottle of Eylure glue, which I really recommend buying if you’re a regular lash wearer. Just don’t let any idiot pals like Lauren near it – the distress that I felt when she shattered my bottle by dropping it on the apartment floor in Kavos last year is something I’ve never quite got over (much like the fact that we even went to Kavos, but again that’s me being old and boring).

Have any of you tried the false eyelashes from Primark? What did you think?

Outfit of the Day: Primark Quilted Tshirt & Leather Skater Skirt

DSCN2793

Hello friends and strangers!

This is just a little OOTD post to let you all see my bank holiday outfit, which was hastily picked off my floordrobe after spending hours agonising what to wear with this cream Primark quilted tshirt (I think it was £8, I WUV IT)! I ended up going for my leather look skater skirt, which is from Missguided. I used the term leather VERY loosely, the skirt is made out of what me and Claire can only describe as swimming costume material.

I paired with Claire’s BEAUTIFUL Jeffery Campbell dupe heels, which are from ebay and are my favourite things in the entire world (must actually get my own and stop skanking from my dear blonde house pal).

You can’t really see my earrings, but they were gold spikey triangles (surprise, surprise) from Primark (yet again, surprise surprise!).

I’m not sure why I look so hunch back in this photo but in the words of Drizzy, you only live once and if that means being a bit hunched, then so be it.

What do you all think of this little monochrome outfit?

August Haul: Primark and New Look

Today I did something I have never done before: walked out of my hairdresser’s house and burst into tears. It is honestly the most upset I’ve been about my hair, and this is coming from the girl who had to go to her Year 11 Leavers’ Ball looking like Honey Boo Boo.

After having my weave re-sewn in today, I asked my hairdresser to trim an inch or so off the ends as they were looking a bit ratty – so please imagine my shock when I looked in the mirror and saw that what were my 18 inch hair extensions had now been cut into a bizarre long bob which is only about an inch longer than my natural hair.

I did the typically British thing of smiling brightly, saying thank you and commenting how healthy it looked, and then fled. I admit crying might have been a bit dramatic, but it dawned on me that since having extensions, long hair has become a bit of a security blanket for me. Suddenly being out with natural-length hair made me feel like a big naked weirdo – and who wants to feel like one of those?

After ringing a friend and explaining that I would be hiding in my house for a month, I received strict instructions to pull myself together, head into town and indulge in a bit of retail therapy. And so VOILA – that is what brings me to this post.

Primark

I was very excited to see that Primark have started introducing their Autumn/Winter stock in store. I might have massively slated the collection in my Primark A/W 2013 post, but since then I’ve actually had a change of heart about a lot of the key trends this season and so am much more willing to give things a go. Also, the sight of lots of black clothing really matched my post-hairdresser mood, which might explain why there is not a bright colour to be seen.

Haul 24th August 1Camis – both £5

People have been loving the Topshop camis lately, but to be honest I haven’t been very interested in them; I’m strangely broad shouldered for my petite frame, so thin-strapped camisoles have never been that flattering on me. But when I spied these Primark versions, I decided to try the black one on just to see. I was actually pleasantly surprised with how it looked, as well as the overall quality, so decided to snap up the plum colour too. They also had them in coral, nude and grey, and other stores might have other colours too. For almost a quarter of the price of the Topshop camis, these are brilliant value for money and I’m once again left scratching my head as to why people would choose the more expensive option when I see such little difference.

Haul 24th Aug 2Leather Quilted Skirt – £10 / Leather-Sleeved Tee – £4

Primark are all over the A/W leather trend right now, so if you’re not sure about it still and want to try a few cheap pieces then I’d definitely recommend taking  a look. This skirt stood out to me because of the quilted texture – texture is set to be really important this winter so it’s ticking a couple of boxes for only a tenner. I wasn’t sure about it when I tried it on, though. I don’t think a-line skirts are particularly the most flattering shape for me to begin with, and with this skirt I have the problem I have quite a lot of it being very fitted on my massive bootay and then a bit gapey at the back where my waist is smaller. I do think it will be a great staple piece though, plus on the mannequins it was paired with jumpers which would eliminate  my gaping waist problem. I’m going to try it with a few things in my wardrobe and decide its fate later.

I’m also a big fan of leather sleeves at the moment. I think PU trim can look a little tacky (especially in Primark, so sorry to say this but it’s true) but sleeves are a nice way of bringing in a little leathery edge. Primark have leather-sleeved skater dresses, jumpers and t-shirts so whatever your needs, you can have a leathery sleeve to match. I decided on the tee, and bought it 2 sizes bigger than normal with the idea of wearing it as a dress.

Haul 24th August 3Kimono – £7 / Cardigan – £10

Ah, be still my beating heart. I’ve been after a kimono for a while now so was extremely chuffed to find that one of the last couple of these in store was a size 10. NABBED. I love the colours and the oriental floral/bird print. They had a few other kimonos in in lighter colours, but as I have my eyes firmly set on Autumn I stuck to the dark version.

I saw this cardigan recently on one of Lily Melrose’s hauls and loved the way she styled it. In keeping with the textured trend, I think this fluffy dream will be great for adding a bit of variety to outfits during the transitional Autumn period. Plus I just have hella love for anything remotely fluffy or furry, and it is SO warm and cosy.

Haul 24th August 4Frilly Socks – £1.50 each / Ring – £1.50 / Tights – £2.50

I’ve recently bought some cut-out ankle boots (see below if you simply can’t wait) and so have been after a couple more pairs of frilly ankle socks to wear with them. I think the different colours peeking through will be – I dunno, cute/fun/interesting(?) – I just want it to happen god dammit. I also need to bring more gold rings into my life as I love my gold chains but have hardly any other gold jewellery, and who isn’t always in need of an extra pair of tights?

New Look & eBay

Haul August 25th 6

Haul August 24th 5Cut-Out Boots – £27.99 / Wood Heel Platform Boots – £14.99

Neither of these were bought today, but I thought I’d include them anyway. Shoes aren’t something I actually buy that often, but I’ve bought two new pairs recently. Cut-out boots are everywhere at the moment, and I opted for this New Look pair (bought via ASOS because I like to take maximum advantage of my free next-day delivery) as they’re a slightly more feminine and work-appropriate version compared to the clumpy biker boots. I plan to do a full post on these soon, included how to style them and where you can buy alternative versions!

The eBay shoes are quite possibly my favourite things ever. Brilliant dupes for the Jeffrey Campbell classics, they cost just £14.99 from this eBay seller and are some of the comfiest but highest shoes I own. I think these will be brilliant for so many different occasions and basically I just love them mega loads.

So, that concludes today’s haul post. I hope your bank holidays are all off to a better start than mine – if anybody needs me over the coming weeks, then as stated I shall now be hibernating until I can afford a new set of extensions. Cheerio.

Outfit of the Day: Neon Shorts and White Shirt.

Hello lovely ladies!
Claire and I hosted a house party at what we affectionately call the Bitch Shack (colloquially known as the shack of bitches) on Saturday in honour of my birthday. Obviously, it called for a new outfit and about 10 layers of St Moriz!
readyforthebeach

I have raved about these shorts since I bought them around two weeks ago and I’ve been a genuine eager beaver to wear them. They’re from Missguided and cost me the grand total of £19.99 – I believe they do a dress in the same print if you are interested and as eager for the floral neon as I am! It took me a while to figure out what to wear with it, but I finally decided on this creamy white blouse from Primark (£8) and this triangle/bunting style necklace that also happens to be from Primark (shock horror…it was £3 FYI!). I borrowed a pair of heels from Claire as I’d left the cream ones I wanted to wear in Birmingham and my outfit was well and truly done! I did my nails in a matte effect Models Own nail varnish and some nude lipstick to keep things from getting too wild.

I was vair vair happy with it actually – perhaps even one of my most favey outfits to date! The party was vair fun too – apart from when I smashed my bottle of Moet on the floor when someone told me they didn’t like Game of Thrones…

Outfit of the Day: Primark Floral Crown and Split Maxi

OOTN 17th AugustFloral Crown – Primark / Crop Tee & Maxi Skirt – Missguided / Necklace – Primark (old) / Shoes – eBay

Happy Sunday y’all. Here at Stylingo HQ we are both nursing quite ludicrous hangovers after throwing a house party last night in celebration of Lauren’s birthday (yes, ANOTHER celebration – the girl knows how to milk a birthday). We consider ourselves to be quite tip top hosts and this time even treated our guests to a mini-buffet from Iceland – needless to say, everyone was thrilled. There was also a lot of Kanye West and a lot of tequila, so all in all it was a successful night.

As you can see, I went pretty ‘out there’ for me. By which I mean I wore the exact same sort of outfit I’ve been wearing loads lately and a crazy blind pensioner could have predicted that I’d wear something like this. Ho hum!

August Haul: Primark, New Look & More!

‘Ello ladies!

I have a bit of a confession to make…I am supposed to be on a spending ban. That went well.

aUGUST HAULI’ve been trying to invest in some simpler pieces to go with the more jazzy things in my wardrobe so I don’t have to wear too many mad prints at once – I usually am a bit of a ‘AHH LOOK AT THE LEOPARD PRINT. LOOK AT THE FLORALS’ kind of gal and have very little interest in plain things. But as a working girl in her 20s, sometimes turning up to the office in acid wash and leopard print isn’t the most professional way to dress.

CLOTHES

New Look Dress | Primark Shirt | Missguided Shorts

I managed my new simple mantra with *two* of my recent purchases, so all in all not too shabby! You can’t g wrong with a t-shirty style skater dress and I love the rose colour of this one! Rose is also a big colour for autumn/winter, so I’m pleased to be getting a few on-trend items in my wardrobe already! The shirt is very me and I have about 10 cream blouses in my cupboard already…one more can’t hurt, right? I plan to wear it with these jazzy neon floral shorts on Saturday night for our house party!

BEAUTYLush Happy Hippy Shower Gel | Lush Dirty Springwash Shower Gel | Lush Bohemian Soap | Lush Ocean Salt Facial Scrub | Lush Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub | Lush Whoosh Shower Jelly | Maybelline Baby Lips | Nivea Day Cream | Nivea Cleansing Lotion | Palmer’s Natural Bronze | Purdie’s Hand Lotion | Model’s Own Nail Varnish |

Phew, we have a few beauty products on the go don’t we! I haven’t used any of my Lush stuff yet, so I can’t comment on those. The Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm is something I seriously don’t get. It’s just vaseline, basically. WHAT IS THE HYPE ABOUT?! The Purdie’s hand lotion smells amazing and I picked it up in Scotland. The rest is pretty self explanatory, oui oui?

ACCESSORIES

H&M Pork Pie Hat | New Look Bag | Primark Necklace and Earrings

I’ve been after a pork pie hat for AGES, but refused to pay Topshop prices because I am a tramp poor girl. I found this bad boy in H&M for £8.99 so it swiftly found it’s way into my shopping basket! It’s going to be another great autumn/winter piece and I’m very excited to start wearing it! The bag is another transitional piece (and one that was desperately needed after my main handbag began to fall apart!). It’s not the best quality but it cost me £10 in the New Look sale so you can’t complain really. Primark is one of my favourite places to go for jewellery and it definitely didn’t disappoint this week! I love this necklace and the earrings are right up my street (although very plasticy!). I also bought a really cute bee/bug ring but I couldn’t find it while I was taking these photos, cry.

SHOESNew Look brogues | Converse from Schuh

This pair of converse are actually a couple of weeks old and something I didn’t buy myself! My parents got them for me for my birthday, which was very lovely of them! I claimed I wasn’t a trainer girl for about a year and that has definitely change…so comfy! The brogues were another attempt at dressing like a grown up and since buying them about a week ago, they’ve had A LOT of wear. I’m very pleased with them, definitely a great classic addition to my wardrobe.

PHEW. That is pretty much all of my recent buys. I think I went a bit mad, but you know. You have to speculate to accumulate, right? (Anyone know what that actually means?).

What do you all think of my August buys?

Outfit of the Day: Primark Tie Dye Midi Dress

Hello fellow voley girls,

Once again, I am writing to you from the land of bag pipes and tartan wearing fools. I saw some grand scenery yesterday and frightened my family by shouting ‘FLY YOU FOOLS, THE ORCS ARE UPON US’ and legging it down the road. The things I do to amuse myself and others. I’m somewhat worried that my parents think they have raised a lunatic. They would be correct in this thinking.

P1060701

This is just a little outfit of the day and one that I have been wearing quite a lot since I bought it for practically nothing a few weeks ago (£5 from Primark, ring the merry bells of England!). I really love it – the fit is pretty flattering and it’s a nice casual one to whack out for work/dinner and everything inbetween. My only beef with it is that it is a bit too long. I meant to force my mother at gunpoint to shorten it for me but then I remembered that I don’t have a gun/she isn’t my slave. I still might get her to work her magic, but the length has actually grown on me now so I may just leave it (cool story, Lauren).

I jazzed up the tie dye with some gold jewellerry, a messy topknot and some nude lipstick (e.l.f, £1 I recall). I’m not sure why I have such a pervert face in this picture, I do apologise.

My shoe situation is dire as I forgot to bring anything normal to Och Aye Land, so I just have a pair of standard black pumps to protect my hooves. They are the reason my legs look about zero inches long. I couldn’t look anymore like a midget if I tried.

Outfit of the Day: The Mirror Edition

You know how people say that as a parent you just feel permanently guilty and worried that you’re not helping your kids enough? I feel that way about this blog – does that make me terribly sad? That question is strictly rhetorical, don’t answer. Anyway, I’m aware that I haven’t done an OOTD post for ages, and have felt very guilty about it. So I finally set up the tripod and camera at the weekend to capture my oh-so-fascinating outfit and what was I greeted with on the display screen? Battery Depleted. SUPER.

So, like the absent father that I feel like, I’m trying to make amends. To give you a rough idea of outfits I’ve been loving lately, here’s a selection of rubbish mirror selfies that I’ve uploaded to our Instagram account @StylingoUK over the last couple of weeks.

OOTD 29th July 4Midi Dress – Primark / Cross Belt – Primark / Watch – River Island (similar here)

I featured this midi dress in my June haul post last month, where I said how rubbish it had looked in the changing room and that it would probably be going back. Well, wasn’t I just being a Negative Nancy. After trying it on properly and jazzing it up with a belt and better shoes, I now love this dress and it’s one of my staple work dresses (I took this at work, hence the attractive toilet shot). A good example of why it’s a good idea sometimes to buy things and try them out at home before making your mind up about them.

OOTD 29th July 3Leather Gilet – H&M / Vest – H&M / Maxi Skirt – Motel Rocks / Cross Necklace – eBay

I wore this outfit last week when I went into Birmingham to meet one of my old uni friends for lunch (FYI, Red Pepper in the Mailbox is THE best place I’ve eaten for a really really long time)(really really). I bought this sleeveless leather jacket months ago and have kind of just never got round to wearing it. I’ve seen plenty of other people wear them, but you know when you get those items you just can’t make work for yourself? I finally bit the bullet and teamed it with my knitted maxi skirt from Motel and I think it kind of worked…

OOTD 29th July 2Crochet Top – Primark / Vest – Primark / Denim Skater Skirt – Topshop

Ah, I love my little Topshop skirt; and it came in so handy during the heatwave. I wore it with this crochet tee (which I stole from my sister about two years ago and never returned – thanks Amy, if you’re reading!) for work one day as a simple summery outfit. I’m lucky to work somewhere where an outfit like this is seen as acceptable, I have NO idea how people who work in offices with strict dress codes coped during that heat!

OOTD 29th JulyCrop Top – Missguided / Trousers – Primark / Jelly Shoes – JuJu (via ASOS) / Lion Head Necklace – eBay

I love this outfit. It’s a shame that I only wore it round to my mum’s house and so it was just met with the greeting, ‘Those trousers are… interesting’. It will definitely need to be re-worn somewhere that it will get a bit more appreciation. I also wore my new favourite piece of jewellery, the lion head necklace that I first mentioned in my eBay dupes post back in May.

I actually ordered it just after that post went live, but there was an unfortunate incident when it was delivered. You see, I just happened to be quite drunk when I came home and discovered the parcel, and all I could remember the next day was the parcel ending up somewhere and my drunk mind thinking, ‘you’re NEVER going to find that when you’re sober, har har har’. And drunk me was right; I searched high and low for it for days and could not track it down. It eventually turned up two weeks ago, wedged behind the back of my chest of drawers. I do wish drunk me had been more considerate and left a note for sober me.

So, I apologise once again for the quality of these OOTD posts. I will soon fix the depleted battery issue and take my parental blogger responsibilities more seriously. Do you forgive me? Can we go bowling now?
